Bluephage, a method for efficient detection of somatic coliphages in one hundred milliliter water samples. [PDF]

open access: yesSci Rep, 2020
AbstractEmerging water quality guidelines and regulations require the absence of somatic coliphages in 100 mL of water, yet the efficiency of standardized methods to test this volume of sample is questionable. A recently described procedure, Bluephage, using a modifiedE.

Inactivation of Escherichia coli and somatic coliphage ΦX174 by oxidation of electrochemically produced Fe2+

open access: yesJournal of Water Process Engineering, 2022
Electrochemical ferrous iron (Fe2+) wastewater treatment is gaining momentum for treating municipal wastewater due to its decreasing costs, environmental friendliness and capacity for removal of a wide range of contaminants. Disinfection by iron electrocoagulation (Fe-EC) has been occasionally reported in full scale industrial applications, yet ...

Occurrence of coliphage in effluent: A systematic literature review and meta-analysis

open access: yesHygiene and Environmental Health Advances, 2022
Studies have illustrated that wastewater treatment methods targeting bacteria do not remove all types of viruses and available epidemiological studies indicate bacteria concentrations may not always be predictive of viral illnesses associated with ...

Recovery of somatic coliphages in shellfish

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 1995
A phage recovery technique is described that is shown to be easy to perform and sensitive. It is efficient in detecting somatic coliphages in mussels artificially contaminated, even at very low levels. Good results are also reported for detection and enumeration of naturally occurring coliphages in mussels and cockles from the French Atlantic coast.

Coliphages as Indicators of Fecal Contamination in Wastewater Treatment (SCA.Re.S. Project)

open access: yesMedical Sciences Forum, 2021
Bacteriophages are fecal indicators of viral contamination, because they are more similar to human pathogenic viruses than the traditional fecal indicator bacteria, in terms of log-reduction during wastewater treatment and persistence in the aquatic ...

New approach for the simultaneous detection of somatic coliphages and F-specific RNA coliphages as indicators of fecal pollution [PDF]

open access: yesScience of The Total Environment, 2019
Two groups of coliphages have been recently included in different water management policies as indicators of viral fecal pollution in water and food: somatic coliphages, which infect E. coli through cell wall receptors, and F-specific RNA coliphages, which infect through the F-pili.

Use of Somatic Coliphages in Biosensoring of Hygiene Safety of Recycled Wastewater

open access: yesChemické listy, 2023
Outflows from secondary stages of conventional mechanical-biological wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) still contain significant concentrations of faecal pollution indicators suggesting the potential presence of pathogenic organisms. The decrease in the concentration of somatic coliphages and bacterial indicators of faecal pollution during the ...
