Reduced resting state functional connectivity of the somatosensory cortex predicts psychopathological symptoms in women with bulimia nervosa

open access: yesFrontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, 2014
BackgroundAlterations in the resting state functional connectivity (rs-FC) of several brain networks have been demonstrated in eating disorders. However, very few studies are currently available on brain network dysfunctions in bulimia nervosa (BN). The

A novel sensor design for accurate measurement of facial somatosensation in pre-term infants. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Facial somatosensory feedback is critical for breastfeeding in the first days of life. However, its development has never been investigated in humans. Here we develop a new interface to measure facial somatosensation in newborn infants.

Roughness coding in the somatosensory system

open access: yesActa Psychologica, 1993
Roughness perception is coded in the somatosensory system by neurons in the type I slowly adapting (SAI) system. When the fingers scan a surface, an isomorphic representation of the surface is encoded in the discharge patterns of SAI afferents. Central neurons in area 3b of primary somatosensory (SI) cortex spatially filter the peripheral image to ...
