Sonar image interpretation and modelling

Proceedings of Symposium on Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Technology, 2002
The problem addressed is that of providing a model-based system to interpret sonar data from an autonomous or remotely controlled vehicle instrumentation, to aid navigation, improve sea floor mapping techniques, identify objects, simulate acoustic images for survey and analysis, or to aid the design of sonar systems.

Counting Fish in Sonar Images

2018 25th IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP), 2018
The goal of this paper is to estimate the population of fishes in sonar images. Compared to natural images, sonar images present substantially different visual characteristics. Fishes in sonar images exhibit unreliable appearance cues, expose under imaging noise, vary significantly in shape and size.

Synthetic aperture active sonar imaging

[Proceedings] ICASSP-92: 1992 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 1992
The main problems involved in synthetic aperture sonar imaging are medium instability, slow mapping rate, and platform motion. Proposed solutions to these problems are reviewed, and a new technique for synthetic aperture sonar imaging is presented which allows a fast mapping rate and improved motion compensation.
