Acoustic Measurements on a Sonic Crystals Barrier

open access: yesEnergy Procedia, 2015
AbstractThis paper describes the measurements carried out over a sonic crystal at normal incidence according to EN 1793-6, which allows to cancel ground reflection and edge diffraction by applying suitable windowing techniques. The sample was made of hollow PVC pipes with an outer diameter of 160mm arranged in a square lattice with lattice constant 0.2

Valley vortex states in sonic crystals

open access: yes2016 Progress in Electromagnetic Research Symposium (PIERS), 2016
Valleytronics is quickly emerging as an exciting field in fundamental and applied research. In this Letter, we study the acoustic version of valley states in sonic crystals and reveal a vortex nature of such states. Besides the selection rules established for exciting valley polarized states, a mimicked spin Hall effect of sound is proposed further ...

Spatial filtering of sound beams by sonic crystals [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Acoustics, 2012
We propose and numerically demonstrate an efficient cleaning of spatial structure (spatial filtering) of sound beams by propagating them through at least twodimensional sonic crystals, i.e. through acoustic structures periodically modulated in longitudinal and in transversal direction with respect to the sound propagation direction. We show the spatial

Sound diffusers based on sonic crystals

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2013
A sound diffuser is proposed based on sonic crystals, structures formed by a periodic distribution of cylindrical scatterers in a host medium, which is usually air. The diffuser is a so-called biperiodic structure, as formed by two arrays of sonic crystals with slightly different periodicities.

Sonic crystal acoustic switch device

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2013
This study reports a wave-controlled sonic crystal switch device that exhibits a destructive interference-based wave to wave reverse switching effect. By applying control waves, this acoustic device, composed of a two-dimensional square lattice sonic crystal block, reduces acoustic wave transmission from input to output.

Radial Sonic Crystals

2010
This work introduces the so named radial sonic crystals, which are a new type of acoustic materials characterized by the fact that their acoustical properties are periodic in the radial direction, either in two dimensions or in three dimensions. These periodic conditions allow the application of Bloch theorem to the corresponding wave equation for sound

Sonic crystal with open resonant cavities

Physical Review E, 2007
An improved scattering matrix method is developed to study a two-dimensional air-rigid sonic crystal with open resonant cavity, and the band structure and transmission properties are investigated. Numerical results show that both the band structure and the transmission coefficient are sensitive to the shape of the resonant cavity.
