Spectral structure of pressure measurements made in a combustion duct [PDF]

open access: yes
A model for acoustic plane wave propagation in a combustion duct through a confined, flowing gas containing soot particles is presented. The model takes into account only heat transfer between the gas and soot particles. As a result, the model depends on

iSELECTION: An Instrument to Study the Kinetics of Isomer‐Selected Gas‐Phase Ion‐Molecule Reactions

open access: yesChemistry–Methods, EarlyView.
Isomer‐specific reactivity is key in cluster chemistry. Herein, it is shown that how combining drift‐tube ion mobility with mass spectrometry enables the derivation of reaction rate coefficients for coexisting C40+$\text{C}_{40}^{+}$ isomers, opening new avenues for studying complex chemical systems ...

Large Eddy Simulation of the evolution of the soot size distribution in turbulent nonpremixed flames using the Bivariate Multi-Moment Sectional Method [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
A joint volume-surface formalism of the Multi-Moment Sectional Method (MMSM) is developed to describe the evolution of soot size distribution in turbulent reacting flows. The bivariate MMSM (or BMMSM) considers three statistical moments per section, including the total soot number density, total soot volume, and total soot surface area per section.

Optical and probe determination of soot concentrations in a model gas turbine combustor [PDF]

open access: yes
An experimental program was conducted to track the variation in soot loading in a generic gas turbine combustor. The burner is a 12.7-cm dia cylindrical device consisting of six sheet-metal louvers.

Sustainable Graphite and Jet Fuel from Biorefinery Residue

open access: yesChemSusChem, EarlyView.
This study explores the novel conversion of bio‐oil from benzene‐toluene‐xylene (BTX) production into biographite and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). By replicating synthetic graphite production through coking, calcination, and graphitization, the process yields high‐performance biographite suitable for lithium‐ion batteries.

Soot oxidation rates in gas turbine engines [PDF]

open access: yes
A basis is proposed for extrapolating soot oxidation rate measurements obtained in laboratory flames to the more extreme operating conditions of gas turbine combustion chambers.
