Effects of Soot Structure on Soot Oxidation Kinetics
2011Abstract : This project focused on the mechanisms of soot oxidation by O2. A two-stage burner was used. Soot was generated for ethylene, JP-8 surrogate (n-dodecane/m-xylene), m-xylene, and n-dodecane air premixed flames. Downstream, the soot-laden gases were passed through a secondary flat-flame burner where soot was burned out under fuel-lean or -rich

Science, 1982
A potential problem associated with soot particles in the atmosphere is pointed out, namely, the catalytic activity of such particles for certain atmospheric chemical reactions, including the oxidation of sulfur dioxide to sulfate. Conversion of SO/sub 2/ to sulfate is widely recognized as a major source of acidity in clouds and rain water.

Soot From Fires: III. Soot Suppression
Journal of Fire Sciences, 1986The literature on soot suppression, in particular from fuels relevant to fires, has been reviewed. The efficient additives required for soot suppression from gaseous fuels are mainly metallic salts, typically barium. On the other hand, the reduction of the smoke formation tendency of polymeric materials has been achieved by an enormous variety of ...

The Many Faces of Soot: Characterization of Soot Nanoparticles Produced by Engines
Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2014AbstractSoot nanoparticles produced by engines constitute a threat to human health. For the analytical chemist, soot is a hard nut to crack as the released particles undergo rapid changes in their size, shape, and number concentration. The complete characterization of soot will be essential to meet future low‐emission standards.

Model of Soot Formation: Coupling of Turbulence and Soot Chemistry
1994The aim of our study is to model soot formation in the extreme conditions of Diesel engines. The first concept has been to use a formulation for soot formation deduced from the most recent experimental work. However, in order to take into account the effects of turbulence and pressure, associated to soot production, we had to use very simplified ...
