Soot volume fraction measurements in a forest fuel layer

Experimental Thermal and Fluid Science, 2014
This paper presents an experimental study of soot particles produced during the combustion of Radiata died pine needles. The samples were oven dried at 333 K for 12 h, then the fuel elements were prepared in order to obtain a small cylindrical fuel sample of about 1.50g. The wildland fuel layer was ignited with 0.7 mL of ethanol obtaining a homogeneous

In-Situ Measurement of Soot Volume Fraction and Temperature in Axisymmetric Soot-Laden Flames Using TR-GSVD Algorithm

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2021
To investigate soot formation and oxidation mechanism in combustion processes, determination of soot volume fraction (SVF) and temperature distributions in laminar co-flow axisymmetric soot-laden flames are still crucially important.

A novel approach for reducing uncertainties in soot volume fraction estimates from light extinction measurements

Journal of Aerosol Science, 2021
Studies on the combustion of isolated droplets are crucial for gaining insights into the mechanisms of soot formation and destruction in practical combustion devices involving liquid fuels.

Retrieving soot volume fraction fields for laminar axisymmetric diffusion flames using convolutional neural networks

, 2021
Typical procedures for estimating soot volume fraction distribution in laboratory flames require solving ill-posed inverse problems to recover the fields from convoluted signals that integrate light extinction from soot particles along the line-of-sight ...

A decomposition method for the simultaneous reconstruction of temperature and soot volume fraction distributions in axisymmetric flames

Measurement science and technology, 2020
This paper presents a method for the simultaneous reconstruction of temperature and soot volume fraction distributions in axisymmetric flames. In the proposed method, the radiation temperature and emissivity are determined using a multi-wavelength method.

Simultaneous imaging of temperature and soot volume fraction

Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, 2011
This paper demonstrates the first simultaneous single-shot imaging of temperature and soot volume fraction, measured with nonlinear regime two-line atomic fluorescence (NTLAF) and laser-induced incandescence (LII), respectively. The measurements are performed in laminar premixed and nonpremixed flames, and in a wrinkled nonpremixed flame.
