Sophocles the Ironist

2012
This chapter argues that while Sophocles may exploit relatively 'stable' irony, where the audience is confidently aware of truth hidden from the characters, he also uses more complex and 'unstable' irony which unsettles any feelings of certainty which we may have about the real meaning of events.
