Phylogenomics, taxonomy and morphological characters of the Microdochiaceae (Xylariales, Sordariomycetes)

open access: yesMycoKeys
Species of the family Microdochiaceae (Xylariales, Sordariomycetes) have been reported from worldwide, and collected from different plant hosts. The proposed new genus and two new species, viz., Macroidriellagen. nov., M. bambusaesp. nov. and Microdochium australesp.

Diaporthosporellaceae, a novel family of Diaporthales (Sordariomycetes, Ascomycota)

open access: yesMycoscience, 2018
Abstract Diaporthosporella cercidicola, collected from diseased branches of Cercis chinensis in China, is herein described and illustrated. Evidence for this new genus and species is provided by both holomorphic morphology and phylogenetic analysis. Diaporthosporella cannot be classified into any existing family.

Effects of continuous cropping on fungal community structure succession in rhizosphere and non-rhizosphere soils of cassava

open access: yesGuangxi Zhiwu
For revealing the mechanism of cassava continuous cropping obstacle formation, we study planted cassava in a fixed field for three continous years, and applied high-throughput sequencing technology and bioinformatics to explore effects of continuous ...

Vegetal residue‐based formulation of Trichoderma ossianense, a new indigenous vineyard species adapted to alkaline pH with potential biocontrol ability against Black‐foot disease pathogens

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 4, Page 2910-2924, April 2026.
The study identifies Trichoderma ossianense, was can be isolated from grapevine roots, is capable of growing at alkaline pH and controls black‐foot pathogens, highlighting the vegetal residue‐based formulations that preserve its viability. Abstract BACKGROUND Fungi of the Trichoderma genus are used in vineyards as biological control agents mainly ...

Identification of Aquapteridospora guangxiensis sp. nov., a Novel Lignicolous Freshwater Fungus from Guangxi Province, China

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Botany, Volume 64, Issue 1, March 2026.
During an ongoing survey of lignicolous freshwater fungi in Guangxi Province, China, an interesting hyphomycete is discovered and introduced. Based on morphological comparison and multi‐locus phylogenetic analyses of combined internal transcribed spacer, partial large subunit nuclear rDNA, and partial translation elongation factor 1‐alpha (tef1‐α ...

Biodiversity of fungi in hot desert sands

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, 2019
The fungal community of six sand samples from Saudi Arabia and Jordan deserts was characterized by culture‐independent analysis via next generation sequencing of the 18S rRNA genes and by culture‐dependent methods followed by sequencing of internal ...

Demystifying fungal systematics: A gateway to fungal literacy and societal/ecological relevance through familiar species

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 8, Issue 2, Page 499-515, March 2026.
Fungal systematics can feel overwhelming given the vast species diversity within this kingdom, with numerous subgroups at every taxonomic rank. This often creates a disconnect between the undertsnidng of fungal taxonomic diversity and their societal relevance.

In‐Field Evaluation of Triticum spelta and Triticum aestivum Performance Under Contrasting Irrigation Regimes and Farming Systems: Impact on Yield, Grain Quality and Soil Microbiota

open access: yesJournal of Agronomy and Crop Science, Volume 212, Issue 2, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Drought is a major abiotic stress affecting crop yields worldwide. Similarly, organic practices have been reported to enhance soil health and microbial diversity, influencing crop growth and yield. Given its drought tolerance, spelt (Triticum spelta) has been proposed as a resilient alternative to wheat (Triticum aestivum).
