Summary A comparison was made of the encephalization of 18 species of shrews and the macromorphology of their brains. S. etruscus, one of the smallest living mammals, is in line with the other white-toothed shrews in both encephalization and brain morphologgyy. Like S. murinus, in encephalization, it is close to the lower end of the scale.
