Opinion and report of the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES) on the assessment of the impact of fox population dynamics on public health

open access: yesFood Risk Assess Europe, Volume 3, Issue 2, April 2025.
ABSTRACT The Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) can be hunted as a game species. It may also be listed as a “species likely to cause damage” (ESOD – the acronym in French), for public health reasons among others. Conversely, benefits linked to the presence of foxes are also put forward, such as the predation of rodents carrying zoonotic agents.

Dynamic changes in ocular shape during human development and its implications for retina fovea formation

open access: yesBioEssays, Volume 46, Issue 1, January 2024.
We propose that fovea formation involves dynamic and asymmetric changes in ocular shape in humans and other species with foveated eyes. Abstract The human fovea is known for its distinctive pit‐like appearance, which results from the displacement of retinal layers superficial to the photoreceptors cells.

First detection and characterization of hepatitis E virus (Rocahepevirus ratti) from urban Norway rats (Rattus norvegicus) in the Republic of Korea

open access: yesJournal of Medical Virology, Volume 96, Issue 1, January 2024.
Abstract Hepatitis E virus (HEV), an emerging zoonotic pathogen, poses a significant public health concern worldwide. Recently, rat HEV (Rocahepevirus ratti genotype C1; HEV‐C1) has been reported to cause zoonotic infections and hepatitis in humans. Human infections with HEV‐C1 are considered to be underestimated worldwide due to limited knowledge of ...

Applying abundance/biomass comparison curves to small mammals: a weak tool for detect urbanization-related stress in the assemblages?

open access: yesFolia Oecologica, 2020
Urbanization is a form of pervasive human-induced disturbance. We tested the effectiveness of Abundance/Biomass Comparisons (ABC) as an approach in detecting stress due to landscape urbanization in large small mammal assemblages obtained from pellets of ...

Only a few studies on the karyotype of this species for samples from Aomori Prefecture, northernmost Honshu, the Japanese Islands have been published. Our current results indicate that the chromosomal constitutions are fundamentally identical
