Nanofiber PVA‐Based Membranes Incorporating Functionalized Spanish Broom Derivatives for Sustainable Water Purification

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
This study investigates Spanish broom (Spartium junceum) as a renewable source for electrospun composite membranes in sustainable water purification. MCC and biochar were functionalized with eco‐friendly precursors and nanomaterials (i.e., HNT, β‐CDs) to develop hybrid PVA nanofiber composites.

Strategies for Assessing Post‐Wildfire Geomorphic Resilience in Semiarid Rivers

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We review and summarize diverse components of a catchment that can be monitored after wildfire to assess the geomorphic resilience of the river corridor in semiarid regions. We distinguish upland portions of river catchments from river corridors.

Investigation of Premature Distress Around Joints in PCC Pavements: Parts I & II [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Some of the Indiana concrete pavements constructed within the last 10-20 years have shown signs of premature deterioration, especially in the areas adjacent to the longitudinal and transverse joints.

Enhancing durability of steam‐cured precast concrete culverts using SCMs: A comparative study with delithiated beta spodumene

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract Steam curing is commonly used to manufacture precast culverts to accelerate early strength development. This study investigates the effect of supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) on the permeability properties of steam‐cured precast concrete culverts.

Temperature influences water sorptivity of soil aggregates

open access: yesJournal of Hydrology and Hydromechanics, 2013
The aim of this study was to determine the potential development of water sorptivity of soil aggregates by heating. Soil aggregates were sampled from arable layer of 5 Polish soils: Haplic Luvisol 1 from Czesławice, Haplic Luvisol 2 from Wierzchucinek ...

The enamelling of concrete for improved performance characteristics by means of high power diode laser interaction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The contemporary 120 W high power diode laser (HPDL) has been successfully used for the first time to fire an enamel glaze onto the ordinary Portland cement (OPC) surface of concrete.

Experimental and design‐oriented research on fiber reinforced concrete segmental tunnel linings: A systematic review

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract The use of fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) in precast tunnel segments is among the most established and representative applications of this material. Over the past two decades, numerous tunnel linings were constructed with partial or total substitution of conventional steel reinforcement by fibers, this yielding to quantifiable benefits in ...

Influence of Thermal Treatment on the Chemical and Structural Properties of Geopolymer Gels Doped with Nd2O3 and Sm2O3

open access: yesGels
In this research, the influence of the thermal treatment of geopolymer gels at 300 °C, 600 °C and 900 °C when incorporated with 5% rare earth elements (REEs) in the form of (GP-Sm) Sm2O3 and (GP-Nd) Nd2O3 was investigated.

Ternary blend cements concrete. Part II: Transport mechanism

open access: yesMateriales de Construccion, 2007
With today’s extensive use of cements containing two or more additions (blended cements), predicting concrete durability on the grounds of its strength alone leads to errors that may affect the service life of the resulting structures.

On the hygrothermal properties of sandcrete blocks produced with sawdust as partial replacement of sand

open access: yesJournal of the Mechanical Behavior of Materials, 2021
In Nigeria, sawdust is continuously generated in large quantities as waste but majorly under-utilised, a situation which causes serious environmental problems and health hazards when managed improperly.
