Phase IIB, Randomized, Double‐Blind, Placebo‐Controlled Clinical Trial of Intravenous Defibrotide for the Prevention and Treatment of Respiratory Distress and Cytokine Release Syndrome in COVID‐19

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Endothelial dysfunction is key in COVID‐19 pathogenesis. This randomized, double‐blind phase IIb trial investigated continuous intravenous infusion of defibrotide in patients hospitalized with SARS‐CoV‐2 infection and respiratory failure.

Third Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation in Children: A Multicenter Analysis From the Spanish GETH‐TC Pediatric Group

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Third allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT3) is rarely performed in pediatric patients and is associated with high toxicity and mortality. Data on outcomes in this setting remain scarce. We conducted a retrospective multicenter study within the Spanish GETH‐TC Pediatric group including 29 children and adolescents who ...

Family Perspectives on Disappearance: Perceived Contributing Factors and Coping Strategies for Ambiguous Loss

open access: yesFamily Relations, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective This study aimed to examine how families interpret disappearances, to assess their psychological and emotional impact, and to explore perceived support and coping strategies. Background Disappearances are a widespread yet understudied phenomenon with severe psychological consequences for affected families. The uncertainty surrounding

Directional information flow in human frataxin defines allosteric pathways connecting the hydrophobic core to the iron‐binding ridge

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Human frataxin deficiency causes Friedreich's ataxia, yet how iron‐binding events are communicated across the protein is unclear. Using transfer entropy analysis of molecular dynamics simulations, we identify buried hydrophobic core leucines (LEU136, LEU140) as the source of directional signaling toward the iron‐binding acidic ridge.

The Epistemic Harms of Botched Apologies for Past Wrongs

open access: yesJournal of Applied Philosophy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Apologies often create expectations of meaningful change and repair. Yet when institutions or states deliver apologies for past wrongs that lack substantive reparative action, they risk deepening, rather than redressing, the harms they acknowledge.

Measuring success in HS treatment from the physician's and the patient's perspective

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, EarlyView.
Integrated clinician (HiSCR, IHS4, IHS4‐55, HS‐IGA) and patient (HiSQOL, DLQI) scores, combined with imaging‐based fibrosis and inflammation assessment, redefine treatment success in hidradenitis suppurativa by aligning treat‐to‐target strategies with both inflammatory control and irreversible structural damage.

Shark preferences: Only subtle effects of electromagnetic field exposure and substrate type on small‐spotted catshark (Scyliorhinus canicula) behaviour

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Offshore wind energy plays a crucial role in the transition to low‐carbon power generation. The expansion of offshore wind farms (OWFs) introduces anthropogenic electromagnetic fields (EMFs) from subsea power cables. Elasmobranchs, including sharks and rays, are sensitive to natural electric and magnetic fields used for navigation and prey ...
