How to Manufacture Photonic Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Metamaterials boast applications such as invisibility and “hyperlenses” with resolution beyond the diffraction limit, but these applications haven’t been exploited in earnest and the market for them hasn’t grown much likely because facile and economical methods for fabricating them without defect has not emerged.

Ultrasonic propagation in gases at high temperatures [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
Ultrasonic pulse method /1 to 3 MHz/ measures both sound speed and absorption in monatomic and polyatomic gases in a temperature range of 300 to 20000 degrees K at atmospheric pressure.

Nd(III)‐Based Temperature‐Independent Manometer and Pressure‐Independent Thermometer with Slow Relaxation of Magnetization

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
The Neodymium(III) macrocyclic complex [NdL(CF3SO3)3] serves as a non‐contact, bifunctional sensor for temperature and pressure, displaying field‐induced Single Molecule Magnet (SMM) behavior. At 3 GPa, triflate rotations halt, triggering a disorder‐order phase transition from centrosymmetric phase α to noncentrosymmetric high‐pressure phase β.

Confirming sound absorption characteristics of box absorbers that utilize laser-cut micro-slits on the top surface as the means of sound absorption, with an exploration of different architectural installations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Thesis (S.B.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, 2008.Includes bibliographical references (leaves 22-23).It is believed that the box absorber utilizes viscous forces present in micro-slits on their surfaces to absorb
