The Absorption of Sound in Air

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1953
A detailed review will be presented, summarizing available data on absorption of sound in homogeneous air and its main constituents as a function of frequency, pressure, temperature, and humidity. Disagreement exists between results of the various investigators, especially when different techniques are used.

Enhancing of broadband sound absorption through soft matter.

Materials Horizons, 2021
This paper proposed a metamaterial design method that uses soft matter for constructing a unique soft acoustic boundary to effectively improve broadband sound absorption performance.

Sound absorption panel

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1986
Two pelts of fiberglass are bonded together to form a sound absorption panel. One pelt is deformed to a sawtooth shape and the teeth of the sawtooth pelts are bonded into grooves in the other pelt which is essentially flat except for the grooves.

Sound Absorption in Electrolytes

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1965
Further ultrasonic-absorption measurements have been made at 104–108 cps in a number of electrolytes including iodides, chlorides, acetates, acetic acid, and mixtures of electrolytes. A number of these electrolytes exhibit interesting relaxation effects, which have been interpreted quantitatively in terms of specific ion-ion and ion-solvent ...

Perfect sound absorption of Helmholtz resonators with embedded channels in petal shape

Journal of Applied Physics, 2021
The acoustic metamaterial in the form of a petal-shaped channel embedded Helmholtz resonator (P-CEHR) is proposed for perfect sound absorption. According to theoretical predictions, numerical simulations, and experiments, the P-CEHR achieves perfect low ...

Absorption of Sound in Air

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1971
Experimental measurements of the absorption of sound in still air exhibit a distinct deviation from the theoretical predictions based on known classical and molecular absorption losses. Absorption coefficients have been measured in humid air over the humidity range of 0% to 100% relative humidity.

Acoustic labyrinthine porous metamaterials for subwavelength low-frequency sound absorption

, 2021
An acoustic labyrinthine porous metamaterial (ALPM) or the so-called acoustic labyrinthine metaporous surface is designed for the subwavelength sound absorption by perforating folded slits in a porous material matrix.

Sound absorption barriers

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1992
The present invention aims at providing a sound barrier member that will enable a sound barrier to be constructed that provides good prevention of sound transmission as well as prevention of sound reflection while remaining relatively inexpensive to produce, the sound barrier member comprising an enclosure in a generally panel like configuration having

Acoustic impedance regulation of Helmholtz resonators for perfect sound absorption via roughened embedded necks

Applied Physics Letters, 2020
Acoustic impedance regulation of a neck embedded Helmholtz resonator is realized by introducing surface roughness to the neck so as to convert the initially non-perfect sound absorber to a perfect sound absorber.

THE ABSORPTION OF SOUND IN SEDIMENTS

GEOPHYSICS, 1957
Measurements were made of the attenuation of sound in compacted sediments in water using an ultrasonic wave train at frequencies in the megacycle range. Artificial sediments of glass spheres as well as marine sands have been tested and the variation of absorption with frequency, mean grain size, and concentration are illustrated.
