Direct liquid transmission of sound has little impact on fermentation performance in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2023
Sound is a physical stimulus that has the potential to affect various growth parameters of microorganisms. However, the effects of audible sound on microbes reported in the literature are inconsistent.

The Precedence Effect in Sound Localization [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Association for Research in Otolaryngology, 2014
In ordinary listening environments, acoustic signals reaching the ears directly from real sound sources are followed after a few milliseconds by early reflections arriving from nearby surfaces. Early reflections are spectrotemporally similar to their source signals but commonly carry spatial acoustic cues unrelated to the source location.

Zero Sound and First Sound in a Disk-Shaped Normal Fermi gas

open access: yes, 2009
We study the zero sound and the first sound in a dilute and ultracold disk-shaped normal Fermi gas with a strong harmonic confinement along the axial direction and uniform in the two planar directions.

The Effects of Head Movement and Accurate Proprioceptive Feedback in Training of Sound Localization

open access: yesi-Perception, 2011
We investigated the effects of listeners' head movement and proprioceptive feedback on the accuracy of sound localization. The effects were examined under the conditions that their head movement was restricted (study 1) or unrestricted (study 2) on the ...

Large Scale Cosmic Microwave Background Anisotropies and Dark Energy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
In this note we investigate the effects of perturbations in a dark energy component with a constant equation of state on large scale cosmic microwave background anisotropies. The inclusion of perturbations increases the large scale power.

Sound Velocity Anomaly at the Mott Transition: application to organic conductors and V2O3

open access: yes, 2004
Close to the Mott transition, lattice degrees of freedom react to the softening of electron degrees of freedom. This results in a change of lattice spacing, a diverging compressibility and a critical anomaly of the sound velocity.

Common sole larvae survive high levels of pile-driving sound in controlled exposure experiments. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
In view of the rapid extension of offshore wind farms, there is an urgent need to improve our knowledge on possible adverse effects of underwater sound generated by pile-driving.
