Sound insulation of plywood transporter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
SPMS 2013The paper presents a procedure for design of noise protection system for an industrial plywood transporter. It is noticed in exploitation that the transporter occasionally emits high frequency sound, which is detected as a distinct tone at a ...

Nonlocal active sound control for composite regions

open access: yesMathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, EarlyView.
In the active sound control problem, additional sound sources, known as control sources, are implemented at the perimeter of a protected domain. The control sources can generate secondary sound inside the shielded domain, which attenuates incoming noise. This leads to an inverse source problem.

Dress for success: climate pressures predict fur insulation and body size in natural and reintroduced populations of a threatened marsupial

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Phenotypic variation in functional traits underpins responses to environmental gradients, influencing thermoregulation, energy balance, and long‐term persistence under climate extremes. Climate change is altering these gradients globally, yet in species that have already disappeared from much of their range, adaptive phenotypes may have also been lost,

Digital surveillance of animals and nature recovery

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Digital surveillance technologies (DSTs) are widely applied in nature recovery for their potential to generate novel data on species and ecosystems through digital tracking, automation (e.g. from hazardous locations) and from newly recruited citizen scientists.

Sentipensar [Feel‐Thinking] Cultivates Collective Scientific Sensemaking and Worldbuilding Within and Beyond Ecological Despair

open access: yesScience Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Educating youth about environmental and climate justice is crucial in realizing a sustainable and flourishing future. Yet this can be challenging given the intense eco‐emotions youth experience and express while learning about these consequential realities and their implications.

Carbon VIX, Climate Risk and Financial Stability New Evidence From Developing Countries

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates the effects of the carbon VIX and climate risk on financial stability through the banking Z‐score in developing economies. Using the Dynamic Panel Threshold Model of 106 developing countries from 2012 to 2022, the results reveal that both carbon VIX and climate risk exert a significant negative influence on banking ...

National Policy Coherence Counts for Reducing Inequality in Global Climate and Development Agendas

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT International institutions promote policy coherence as crucial to the effective and fair implementation of global sustainability agendas, though the evidence for its benefits is slim. We present here the first systematic cross‐country dataset on the consequences of national government efforts to promote policy coherence for vulnerable groups ...

Assessing and modelling impact sound insulation of wooden joist constructions

open access: yes, 1995
Impact sound insulation is one of the most important aspects when assessing sound insulation of floor constructions in buildings. For assessing the impact sound insulation of aconstruction, a standard tapping machine is used as a sound source.

Opportunities for 2D‐Material‐Based Multifunctional Devices and Systems in Bioinspired Neural Networks

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Bio‐inspired computing offers a route to highly energy‐efficient artificial intelligence. The unique physical properties of two‐dimensional (2D) materials can further enhance such computing approaches. This perspective highlights recent developments in 2D materials‐based neuromorphic devices and discusses future opportunities for integrating such novel

Hierarchically Biporous Wick Vapor Chamber With Micro/Nano Condenser for Exceeding 600 W/cm2 Heat Dissipation

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
An integrated vapor chamber couples a hierarchically biporous copper wick with a micro/nano‐textured superhydrophobic condenser to form a self‐sustained liquid–vapor loop. The device dissipates extreme heat fluxes above 600 W/cm2, even when the condenser is above the heater, by overcoming the permeability‐capillarity trade‐off in conventional vapor ...
