A modal approach to the prediction of the sound reduction index

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2003
The calculation of the sound reduction index in modal analysis is presented in a general way; different possible approaches are described. These calculations are done in two steps: a vibratory study to determine the transverse displacement of the plate and a study of radiation. The specificity of orthotropic plates is presented.

Prediction of the sound reduction index of clay hollow brick walls

Building Acoustics, 2020
Clay hollow brick walls are still popular in building industry, but the prediction of their sound insulation properties is not straightforward due to their inhomogeneous and anisotropic characteristics. In this article, a classic approach has been used to determine the sound transmission coefficient of brick walls, assuming an orthotropic behaviour and

Prediction of the sound reduction index with the modal theory

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2004
A procedure of sound reduction index calculation was developed on the basis of the modal theory. This calculation uses the study of the vibratory behavior and of the radiation of the plate. The vibratory study makes it possible to characterize the displacement of the wall. The latter is developed over a base: sinusoidal or polynomial.

Comparison of different methods to determine the sound reduction index R of walls

INTER-NOISE and NOISE-CON Congress and Conference Proceedings, 2023
The laboratory method (ISO 10140-2:2021) is probably the most accurate method to determine the sound reduction index R of walls. Flanking noise (ISO 10848-1 and 4:2017) is almost fully eliminated in the laboratory setup whereas this is not the case for in situ measurements (ISO 10052:2021).

Influence of screw spacings on sound reduction index in lightweight partitions

Applied Acoustics, 2002
Abstract In this paper measured sound reduction index data for lightweight partitions with gypsum board layers attached to the frame with two different screw spacings are presented. Data are used to show the effect of screw spacings and to quantify the effect on sound reduction index.

Measurement and simulation of brick wall sound reduction index

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2002
This paper presents the procedures and results of an experimental, numerical simulation and analytical model of sound reduction index of solid brick wall. The solid brick used has the following dimensions: 22×10×5 cm and density of 1850 kg/m3. The physic-mechanical characteristics: density, resistance, and elasticity modulus were measured using a set ...

Technical Note: Influence of the Frame on the Sound Reduction Index of a Window

Building Acoustics, 2000
The Sound Reduction Index of 1.2 × 1.2 m windows composed of two identical pivoting leaves of three different thickness of laminated glass and inserted in two different frames (aluminium and PVC) had been measured using pressure and sound intensity techniques. The Sound Reduction Index has been also predicted.

Predicting the sound reduction index of laminated glass

Applied Acoustics, 1994
Abstract Vibration tests on small samples have been used to obtain the critical frequencies and loss factors of 7 mm, 9 mm and 11 mm laminated glass. The Sound Reduction Index (SRI) as a function of frequency has then been predicted using Sharp's method.

On the measurement of the radiation efficiency for the estimate of the resonant sound reduction index

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2017
The estimate of the resonant sound reduction index has received attention over the years as the prediction method described in the standard, ISO 15712 has been applied to lightweight building constructions. A method of estimating the resonant sound reduction index involves the measurement of the total and the resonant radiation efficiencies of the ...

Modelling of impervious layers from measurements of the sound reduction index

Applied Acoustics, 2003
Abstract In this work, developed algorithms are described to characterise impervious layers. It also includes measurements for their sound reduction indexes. These algorithms are based on the minimisation of the quadratic error and allow determining the parameters that characterise the impervious layer.
