Crumpling sound synthesis [PDF]
Crumpling a thin sheet produces a characteristic sound, comprised of distinct clicking sounds corresponding to buckling events. We propose a physically based algorithm that automatically synthesizes crumpling sounds for a given thin shell animation.

Gestural Control of Sound Synthesis
Proceedings of the IEEE, 2004This paper provides a review of gestural control of sound synthesis in the context of the design and evaluation of digital musical instruments. It discusses research in various areas related to this field and equally focuses on four main topics: analysis of music performers' gestures, gestural capture technologies, real-time sound synthesis methods ...

Synthesis of Hand Clapping Sounds
IEEE Transactions on Audio, Speech and Language Processing, 2007We present two physics-based analysis, synthesis, and control systems for synthesizing hand clapping sounds. They both rely on the separation of the sound synthesis and event generation, and both are capable of producing individual hand-claps, or mimicking the asynchronous/synchronized applause of a group of clappers.

Sound synthesis for impact sounds in video games
Symposium on Interactive 3D Graphics and Games, 2011We present an interactive system for synthesizing high quality, physically based audio on current video game consoles. From a recorded impact sound, we compute a modal model, which we use to synthesize variations of the sound on the fly. We show that for many sounds greater quality is obtained by using the amplitude envelopes of the extracted modes ...

The evolutionary sound synthesis method
Proceedings of the ninth ACM international conference on Multimedia - MULTIMEDIA '01, 2001A mathematical model for interactive sound synthesis based on the application of Genetic Algorithms (GA) is presented. The Evolutionary Sound Synthesis Method (ESSynth) generates sequences of waveform variants by the application of genetic operators on an initial population of waveforms. We describe how the waveforms can be treated as genetic code, the

A design of sound synthesis IC
Proceedings of 1998 Asia and South Pacific Design Automation Conference, 2002This paper presents a design of sound synthesis IC for MIDI systems. It consists of a MIDI controller and a sound synthesis DSP. The IC was designed on 0.8 /spl mu/m standard cell library and tested in a sound module card on a PC.

Digital synthesis of impact sounds
Proceedings of the Audio Mostly 2015 on Interaction With Sound, 2015Nonlinear interactions may impose several restrictions to numerical simulation attempts, in particular concerning the design of unconditionally stable algorithms. Such algorithms are required for real-time synthesis applications where virtual instruments may be modified on-line. One characteristic case of nonlinear interactions is that of impact sounds.
