Associations of Rheumatoid Arthritis Disease Activity With Frailty Over Five Years of Follow‐up

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective To evaluate whether rheumatoid arthritis (RA) disease activity is associated with frailty both in cross‐section and longitudinally. Methods Participants within the Veterans Affairs Rheumatoid Arthritis (VARA) registry enrolled from 2003 to 2022 were included.

Frailty Predicts Incident Osteoporotic Fractures in Veterans with Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Background/Objective Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is associated with an increased risk of frailty and osteoporosis, but the relationship between frailty and incident osteoporotic fractures in RA is underexplored. Methods Data were from the Veterans Affairs Rheumatoid Arthritis (VARA) Registry.

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Shaping Matter with Acoustic Waves: From Particles to Functional Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Acoustic‐directed assembly is reviewed as a materials‐oriented strategy for organizing particles, polymers, metals, and biological systems into functional structures. The review distinguishes reversible manipulation from permanent structure formation through medium fixation, particle fixation, and in situ material generation, highlighting routes toward

Parameter Estimation of a Plucked String Synthesis Model Using a Genetic Algorithm with Perceptual Fitness Calculation

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing, 2003
We describe a technique for estimating control parameters for a plucked string synthesis model using a genetic algorithm. The model has been intensively used for sound synthesis of various string instruments but the fine tuning of the parameters has ...

Sustainable Electrochemical Synthesis of High‐Quality MXenes: Mechanistic Insights, Applications, Challenges, and Technological Prospects

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electrochemical etching provides an eco‐friendly alternative to hazardous HF methods for MXene production. This approach facilitates the selective isolation of the A‐layer from MAX phases with tunable surface terminations. Controlling voltage, electrolytes, temperature, and duration enables the optimal structural integrity. Nevertheless, existing scale

Perceptual Control of Environmental Sound Synthesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this article we explain how perceptual control of synthesis processes can be achieved through a multidisciplinary approach relating physical and signal properties of sound sources to evocations induced by sounds. This approach is applied to environmental and abstract sounds in 3 different experiments.
