Root Development and Source-Sink Relations in Carrot,Daucus carotaL

Journal of Experimental Botany, 1980
Physiological responses to root pruning were investigated by comparing 14C02 fixation rates, the partitioning of ""?-labelled assimilate, and soluble and insoluble carbohydrate levels in the leaves of carrot plants following the removal of some of the fibrous roots, or fibrous roots and part of the tap root. Root pruning reduced 14C02 fixation by 28-45%

Source–Sink Relations in the Organs and Tissues of Silver Birch during Different Scenarios of Xylogenesis

Russian Journal of Plant Physiology, 2019
Source–sink relations in the “leaf–stem–root” system at the time of cambial growth were studied in two forms of silver birch: common birch (Betula pendula Roth var. pendula) and Karelian birch (B.pendula var. carelica (Merckl.) Hamet-Ahti). As compared with common birch, reduced sucrose content in the leaves of elongated (auxiblasts) and short ...

Root Development and Source-Sink Relations in Carrot,Daucus carotaL.

Journal of Experimental Botany, 1978
Growth analysis and 14C02 feeding experiments have shown that the developing storage organ became an increasingly important sink for assimilates, accumulating 40% of the dry matter produced by the carrot plant within 9 weeks of sowing. The relative importance of each leaf in fixing and exporting 14C was assessed at two stages of development ...

Source–sink relations and effects of post-anthesis canopy defoliation in wheat at low latitudes

The Journal of Agricultural Science, 1990
SUMMARYSource–sink balance was studied by imposing different canopy defoliation treatments on wheat crops grown in Los Banos (Philippines) in 1985/86 and 1986/87, Sonora (Mexico) in 1972/73 and 1974/75 and New Delhi (India) in 1987/88. The crops were grown in replicated trials with optimum cultural management. Six defoliation treatments were imposed at

Variation in carbohydrate source–sink relations of forest and treeline white spruce in southern, interior and northern Alaska

Oecologia, 2010
Two opposing hypotheses have been presented to explain reduced tree growth at the treeline, compared with growth in lower elevation or lower latitude forests: the carbon source and sink limitation hypotheses. The former states that treeline trees have an unfavorable carbon balance and cannot support growth of the magnitude observed at lower elevations ...

[Regulation effects of various training modes on source-sink relation of cotton].

Ying yong sheng tai xue bao = The journal of applied ecology, 2008
With the removal of vegetative branches plus the maintenance of early fruiting branches as the control, the effects of various training modes on the source-sink relation of field-grown cotton were examined in 2005 and 2006. The results showed that compared with the control, either the removal of vegetative branches plus the removal of early fruiting ...

Root elongation rate is accounted for by intercepted PPFD and source‐sink relations in field and laboratory‐grown sunflower

Plant, Cell & Environment, 1994
ABSTRACTThe existence of relationships between intercepted photo‐synthetic photon flux density (PPFD) and growth of individual organs is somewhat controversial. We have tested whether such relationships could account for the natural variability in elongation rates of taproot and secondary roots of sunflower (from 2 to 135 mm d−1), in field and ...

Major carbon reservoirs of the pedosphere; source - sink relations; potential of D14C and ?13C as supporting methodologies

Water, Air, & Soil Pollution, 1993
I tried to identify and assess the C reservoirs in the pedo-sphere with C-source-sink-relations whereever it seemed possible and pointing to the poorly known rather enigmatic remainder. A special endeavor focussed on the chances and limitations of applying radio-carbon dating and stable isotope δ13 C measuring techniques.

Effects of source‐sink relations on photosynthetic acclimation to elevated CO2

Plant, Cell & Environment, 1991
Abstract. While photosynthesis of C3 plants is stimulated by an increase in the atmospheric CO2 concentration, photosynthetic capacity is often reduced after long‐term exposure to elevated CO2. This reduction appears to be brought about by end product inhibition, resulting from an imbalance in the supply and demand of carbohydrates.
