On the "well-mixed" assumption and numerical 2-D tracing of atmospheric moisture [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2013
Atmospheric water vapour tracers (WVTs) are an elegant tool to determine source–sink relations of moisture "online" in atmospheric general circulation models (AGCMs).

Journalist-Source Relations, Mediated Reflexivity and the Politics of Politics

open access: yes, 2009
This essay discusses journalist-source relations but with an emphasis on how such relations influence the understanding and behaviour of politicians. It explores the issue through empirical work conducted at the site of the UK Parliament at Westminster ...

Self-organization and autonomous control of intralogistics systems in line with versatile production at Werk 150

open access: yesProceedings of the Conference on Production Systems and Logistics, 2020
The planning and control of intralogistics systems in line with versatile production systems of smart factories requires new approaches and methods to cope with changing requirements within future factories.

Grain filling in relation to monocarpic senescence of wheat in varying source-sink ratios

open access: yesBiologia Plantarum, 1988
Flag leaf removal at any stage of grain growth hastened senescence (reduction in chlorophyll content) of the sterile glumes whereas a removal of the latter did not alter senescence of the former. Kernel mass, grain mass per ear, harvest index and sink activity reduced more conspicuously by the removal of glumes than by the flag leaf removal. Removal of

Illuminating Long-lived Cycas Cotyledons Reduces Sink Demands on Megagametophytes during Initial Seedling Growth

open access: yesHortScience
Cycas megagametophyte resources are translocated to developing seedlings through the persistent green cotyledons. The source activities of cotyledons and megagametophytes following germination are not adequately understood. The decline in megagametophyte

Source-Sink Relations in North American Ginseng Seedlings as Influenced by Leaflet Removal [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Ginseng Research, 2008
Seedlings of North American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius L.) were grown to full canopy establishment and then leaflet or leaf removal at different times applied to determine the effects on plant growth and performance. Leaf removal at 47, 57, 69 and 78 days after seeding resulted in 82.1, 59.8, 41.3 and 29.8% reduction, respectively, in root dry matter

The impact of growth stimulators and retardants on the utilization of reserve lipids by sunflower seedlings

open access: yesRegulatory Mechanisms in Biosystems, 2017
Using growth stimulators and anti-gibberillin preparations of different chemical compounds, we created different pressures in the coordinate covalent bond systems during germination of sunflower seeds.

Recovery and Utilization of Low-Grade Waste Heat in the Oil-Refining Industry Using Heat Engines and Heat Pumps: An International Technoeconomic Comparison

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
We assess the technoeconomic feasibility of onsite electricity and steam generation from recovered low-grade thermal energy in oil refineries using organic Rankine cycle (ORC) engines and mechanical vapour compression (MVC) heat pumps in various ...

Long-term analysis of clear-sky new particle formation events and nonevents in Hyytiälä [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2017
New particle formation (NPF) events have been observed all around the world and are known to be a major source of atmospheric aerosol particles. Here we combine 20 years of observations in a boreal forest at the SMEAR II station (Station for Measuring ...

The Alteration Of Tomato CHLOROPLAST VESICULATION Positively Affects Whole-Plant Source–Sink Relations And Fruit Metabolism Under Stress Conditions

open access: yes, 2022
Changes in climate conditions can negatively affect the productivity of crop plants. They can induce chloroplast degradation (senescence), which leads to decreased source capacity, as well as decreased whole-plant carbon/nitrogen assimilation and ...
