Sources, Source Encoding, and Source Characterization
1980It is reasonable to expect that any behavior that we model mathematically will differ a little from the mathematical model. The picture of gaussian noise in a multidimensional signal space we drew in Section 11.1 is a good mathematical model. Thermal noise and certain other kinds of noise are quite accurately gaussian.

Source-to-Source Transformation in the Large
2003In this paper we present Inject/J, both a language and a tool for specifying complex source-to-source transformations of Java programs. The focus of Inject/J is on ”transformation in the large” that is, modification of large object-oriented software on the design level. We first introduce the meta-model of our transformation language.

Program improvement by source to source transformation
Proceedings of the 3rd ACM SIGACT-SIGPLAN symposium on Principles on programming languages - POPL '76, 1976The use of source-to-source program transformations has proved valuable in improving program performance. The concept of program manipulation is elucidated by describing its role in both conventional optimization and high level modification of conditional, looping, and procedure structures.

Proceedings of the ACM-SIGPLAN symposium on The ADA programming language -, 1980
An implementation of translators between Ada and Pascal is described. The method used is to define subsets of each language between which there is a straightforward translation and to translate each source program to its respective sublanguage by program transformations. A common internal tree representation is used.

Modeling source-source and source-filter acoustic interaction in birdsong
Physical Review E, 2005We present a simple model for birdsong production in Oscine songbirds that allows us to study the acoustic interaction between their two sound sources, as well as the acoustic coupling between sources and vocal tract. This model allows us to study complex phenomena in which the traditionally assumed source-filter separation hypothesis does not hold. We

Sources and source contributions to fine particles
Biomarkers, 2009Fine dust is currently seen is one of the major issues in air quality as being responsible for causing negative health effects. Hence it is important to derive information on particle sources and their contribution to the ambient concentrations. This paper reviews two recent studies related to fine particle sources in Germany.

Two-source extractors for leaky sources
2012 IEEE Information Theory Workshop, 2012A (worst-case) 2-source extractor is a deterministic algorithm that transforms pairwise independent weak random sources into almost uniform random strings. Despite non-constructive proofs that such objects exist with almost optimal parameters, it has been a longstanding open problem to construct ‘explicit’ (aka efficient) functions for sources of ...

When Is A Source Not a Source?
2015Nearly all scholars who work on medieval or early modern texts at some point work from digital facsimiles. There are advantages and disadvantages to such objects: what they might offer in terms of convenience and availability, they lack in material information.

Source coding with feedforward: gaussian sources
International Symposium onInformation Theory, 2004. ISIT 2004. Proceedings., 2004This paper describes the source coding of the information signals with feedforward Gaussian sources. A stationary memoryless Gaussian source with zero-mean and variance, and with mean squared error as the distortion measure, gives a deterministic scheme that achieves the optimal rate-distortion bound using simple uniform scalar quantizers.

Source-to-source translation of visual languages
Nord. J. Comput., 1998Summary: We study the problem of translation between visual languages. Languages with a visual syntax are currently in wide use, due to the popularity of different kinds of diagrams used especially in software analysis, design, and animation. Unlike conventional textual languages, visual languages are still quite immature with regard to the formalisms ...
