Source Coding for a Multihop Network [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Summary form only given. In this paper, we bound the rate-distortion region for a four-node network. The results are the first known expansion of rate-distortion theory from single-hop networks (every source has a direct connection to each of its ...

Moderate-deviations of lossy source coding for discrete and Gaussian sources [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE International Symposium on Information Theory. Proceedings, 2011
We study the moderate-deviations (MD) setting for lossy source coding of stationary memoryless sources. More specifically, we derive fundamental compression limits of source codes whose rates are R(D) ± εn, where R(D) is the rate-distortion function and ...

Real‐time assay of ribonucleotide reductase activity with a fluorescent RNA aptamer

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ribonucleotide reductases (RNR) synthesize DNA building blocks de novo, making them crucial in DNA replication and drug targeting. FLARE introduces the first single‐tube real‐time coupled RNR assay, which enables isothermal tracking of RNR activity at nanomolar enzyme levels and allows the reconstruction of allosteric regulatory patterns and rapid ...

Source-Channel Diversity for Parallel Channels

open access: yes, 2004
We consider transmitting a source across a pair of independent, non-ergodic channels with random states (e.g., slow fading channels) so as to minimize the average distortion. The general problem is unsolved. Hence, we focus on comparing two commonly used

NONCODE 2016: an informative and valuable data source of long non-coding RNAs

open access: yesNucleic Acids Res., 2015
NONCODE (http://www.bioinfo.org/noncode/) is an interactive database that aims to present the most complete collection and annotation of non-coding RNAs, especially long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs).

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Privacy-utility tradeoff method using multi-variable source coding

open access: yesTongxin xuebao, 2015
In the age of big data, data providers need to ensure their privacy, while data analysts need to mine the value of data. So,how to find the privacy-utility tradeoff has become a research hotspot.Current works mostly focus on privacy preserving methods ...

Multiterminal source coding with an entropy-based distortion measure [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE International Symposium on Information Theory. Proceedings, 2011
In this paper, we consider a class of multiterminal source coding problems, each subject to distortion constraints computed using a specific, entropy-based, distortion measure.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Suffix-Sorting via Shannon-Fano-Elias Codes

open access: yesAlgorithms, 2010
Given a sequence T = t0t1 . . . tn-1 of size n = |T|, with symbols from a fixed alphabet Σ, (|Σ| ≤ n), the suffix array provides a listing of all the suffixes of T in a lexicographic order.
