Approximating Source Location and Star Survivable Network Problems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In Source Location (SL) problems the goal is to select a mini-mum cost source set $S \subseteq V$ such that the connectivity (or flow) $\psi(S,v)$ from $S$ to any node $v$ is at least the demand $d_v$ of $v$. In many SL problems $\psi(S,v)=d_v$ if $v \in

Location-Based Beamforming and Physical Layer Security in Rician Wiretap Channels

open access: yes, 2016
We propose a new location-based beamforming (LBB) scheme for wiretap channels, where a multi-antenna source communicates with a single-antenna legitimate receiver in the presence of a multi-antenna eavesdropper.

Parent‐to‐Child Information Disclosure in Pediatric Oncology

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Despite professional consensus regarding the importance of open communication with pediatric cancer patients about their disease, actual practice patterns of disclosure are understudied. Extant literature suggests a significant proportion of children are not told about their diagnosis/prognosis, which is purported to negatively ...

Predicting Chronicity in Children and Adolescents With Newly Diagnosed Immune Thrombocytopenia at the Timepoint of Diagnosis Using Machine Learning‐Based Approaches

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives To identify predictors of chronic ITP (cITP) and to develop a model based on several machine learning (ML) methods to estimate the individual risk of chronicity at the timepoint of diagnosis. Methods We analyzed a longitudinal cohort of 944 children enrolled in the Intercontinental Cooperative immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) Study ...

Effect of source location on contaminant dispersion pattern and occupants inhaled air quality in lecture room under displacement ventilation

open access: yesJapan Architectural Review, 2023
Displacement ventilation (DV) is considered an energy saving air conditioning system and is especially recommended for classrooms for providing cool clean air in the occupied zone. However, in the current pandemic situation, ventilation systems should be

Source locations, listener locations, and measurement devices [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of Meetings on Acoustics, 2013
Does the location of the source affect the results of an acoustical measurement? This is the question that sparked the author's Master's Project which explores the differences between measurements taken with a source located on the stage of a performance space and a source located higher above the stage using the space's existing sound system.

Proactive Location-Based Scheduling of Delay-Constrained Traffic Over Fading Channels

open access: yes, 2016
In this paper, proactive resource allocation based on user location for point-to-point communication over fading channels is introduced, whereby the source must transmit a packet when the user requests it within a deadline of a single time slot.

Pathogenic Germline PALB2 and RAD50 Variants in Patients With Relapsed Ewing Sarcoma

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Approximately 10% of patients with Ewing sarcoma (EwS) have pathogenic germline variants. Here, we report two cases: first, a novel germline pathogenic variant in partner and localizer of BRCA2 (PALB2) in a patient with a late EwS relapse. Its impact on homologous recombination is demonstrated, and breast cancer risk is discussed.

Dual-Use Strain Sensors for Acoustic Emission and Quasi-Static Bending Measurements

open access: yesSensors
In this paper, a MEMS piezoresistive ultrathin silicon membrane-based strain sensor is presented. The sensor’s ability to capture an acoustic emission signal is demonstrated using a Hsu–Nielsen source, and shows comparable frequency content to a ...
