Quantifying Seismic Source Parameter Uncertainties

Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 2011
We use data from a small aperture array in southern California to quantify variations in source parameter estimates at closely spaced stations (distances ranging from ∼7 to 350 m) to provide constraints on parameter uncertainties. Many studies do not consider uncertainties in these estimates even though they can be significant and ...

On multiple-parameter source localization

1996 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing Conference Proceedings, 2002
Localization of multiple-parameter sources is considered in this paper. Specifically, the problem of localizing EEG polarized sources is addressed. Expressions are presented for the variance of the source parameter estimates for the MUSIC estimator. The expressions are presented for both finite sample effects and the model perturbations effects.

Near-field source parameters by finite-source theoretical seismograms

Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 1977
abstract Near-field seismograms due to finite faulting in a half-space were calculated. An attempt is made to evaluate near-field fault parameters by using two criteria: (1) agreement of observed and theoretical pulse width; and (2) agreement of observed and calculated amplitude ratios of the horizontal components of motion.

Propagator methods for finding wideband source parameters

Applied Acoustics, 2002
Abstract In this paper, an investigation of the passive angular location of sources using an array of sensors is presented. First, the propagator method, which is an algebraic and linear operator extracted from the cross-spectral matrix of the received data, is extended to the wideband signals through the transformation matrices.

Earthquake magnitude and source parameters

Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 1969
abstract Previous attempts to find empirical linear relationships between the magnitude, M, of an earthquake and the logarithm of one or more of the source parameters (length L, width W, displacement D) are reviewed. The fault parameters associated with a set of 27 earthquakes with strike-slip movement in the magnitude range 3.4 to 8.3 ...

Source Parameters of Injection-induced Microseismicity

Pure and Applied Geophysics, 1998
We analyze source parameters of microseismic events (M < - 1) associated with high flow-rate water injections in a shale formation at a depth of 220 m. Two types of events were observed: several hundred impulsive events with clear P- and S-wave arrivals, and continuous emissions with peaked spectra detected well into the experiment.

Multisite estimation of explosive source parameters

Journal of Geophysical Research, 1972
Short-period P waves from five presumed explosions in eastern Kazakh with magnitudes mb ranging from 5.3 to 5.7 are examined at five teleseismic arrays: Lasa, YKA, OONW, WRA, and GBA. Time domain transfer functions that convert the lower-magnitude events to the largest event at the individual sensors of each array are calculated.

Seismic Source Parameter Ranges

2016
In this chapter there is a description of the seismic parameter ranges as they are in the mine. Chapter ends with a comparison between natural earthquakes and events experienced in mines. Here I have included some estimates of the released energy in a wide seismic magnitude range. Using seismic efficiency concept I have compared the released energy and
