Composition of summer phytoplanktonin the South-Eastern Baltic Sea
2010No abstracts are to be cited without prior reference to the author. In the Baltic Sea cyanobacterial blooms are usually evoked by potentially toxic and nitrogen-fixing Aphanizomenon spp., Nodularia spumigena and Anabaena species. Their growth is dependant on light and temperature conditions as well a ratio between inorganic nutrients (N:P). Usually, the

New data on the Late Glacial of the south-eastern Baltic region
Морские и озёрные бассейны восточной периферии Балтийского щита в четвертичное времяLate glacial sections of Kulikovo and Utinoe Boloto (Kaliningrad Oblast) were studied using litho- logical, geochronological, diatom, palynological, geochemical, chironomid and microbiomorph analyses. The stages of development of the palaeobasin, which existed within the limits of the modern coast of the south-eastern part of the Baltic Sea during the ...

Trophic networks and carbon flows in South Eastern Baltic costal ecosystems
2005No abstracts are to be cited without prior reference to the author.Carbon flows in five South Eastern Baltic coastal ecosystems (Puck Bay, Curonian Lagoon, Open Baltic Coast, exposed Gulf of Riga coast and Pärnu Bay) were compared based on a common 12 compartment ECOPATH model structure. Primary producers were represented by phytoplankton and perennial

Contamination of the south-eastern Baltic Sea and the curonian lagoon with oil products
2008 IEEE/OES US/EU-Baltic International Symposium, 2008The development of complex investigations is a useful tool for determining of the marine environment contamination with oil products. In the frame of national monitoring program, the concentrations of total oil hydrocarbons (THCs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in water and bottom sediments were analyzed and numbers of oil-oxidizing ...

Characterization of aerosol particles over the southern and South-Eastern Baltic Sea
Marine Chemistry, 2017Abstract Studies of aerosol particle number concentration (PNC) level over open sea in the southern and south-eastern Baltic Sea regions were performed during five cruises (2005–2006, 2008–2010) by RV Oceania and at the coastal Preila station (Lithuania).

Anthropogenic transformation of landscapes in the south-eastern Baltic region during Prehistory
Морские и озёрные бассейны восточной периферии Балтийского щита в четвертичное времяRegional palaeoenvironmental and archaeological data have been analysed and summarised, and a picture of the early anthropogenic impact on the landscapes of south-eastern Baltic territory during the Stone Age has been drawn up. Palaeogeographical (Kamyshovoe Lake, Chistoe Lake, Kozje Bog) and archaeological data (the Zedmar culture and the Corded Ware ...

Dynamics of evolution of coastal blowout (Vistula Spit, South-Eastern Baltic)
Vestnik of geosciencesThe findings of a 12-year study of dune complex element development on the Vistula Spit of the Baltic Sea are hereby presented. The focal point of this study is an intensively developing blowout basin in the context of anthropogenic impact. The assessment of landform development over time was conducted by determining geomorphologic changes using ...

The Ecosystem Approach In Application To Management Of Coastal Zones Of The South-Eastern Baltic
2001No abstracts are to be cited without prior reference to the author. The coastal zone can be characterised as a complex, intensively changing and extremely vulnerable ecosystem, affected by numerous natural and anthropogenous impacts. To protect integrity of the coastal zone environment and its unique natural and cultural values new complex methods of ...

Harmful Algal Blooms in Coastal Waters of the South-Eastern Baltic Sea
2002Increased nutrient input results in an enhanced production of organic matter (eutrophication) especially in the river plumes of the Baltic Sea. Therefore, the open sea and the near-shore coastal waters are significantly different with regard to nutrient (N, P) and chlorophyll a concentrations, phytoplankton biomass and Secchi depth.
