Phytoplankton blooms in the oligotrophic open South Adriatic waters

Marine Chemistry, 1989
The phytoplankton bloom recorded in April 1987 in the offshore south Adriatic waters was compared with a less extensive bloom in April 1986. Differences between 1986 and 1987 hydrographic data occurred because of different hydrometeorological conditions. April 1987 was a period of a pronounced advection of eastern Mediterranean water (S>38.65%o, T>14°C)

Summer Assemblage of Ichthyoplankton in South-Eastern Adriatic Sea

2021
The ichthyoplankton assemblage, spatial distribution, and species richness in south- eastern part of Adriatic Sea was analysed in summer 2018 at 25 randomly chosen stations. Results showed the presence of 44 taxa (35 species, 3 genera, 1 family, 5 undetermined) with most abundant species belonging to families Engraulidae, Carangidae, Scombridae ...

A mycological survey of the South Adriatic Sea

Journal of Experimental Marine Biology and Ecology, 1980
Abstract A total of 498 fungal isolates belonging to 33 genera and 90 species were identified in the course of a 2-yr survey of the southern part of the territoreal waters of the Yugoslav Adriatic Sea. The best represented genus was Penicillium (32.12% of the total number of isolates), the P.

Associations of trace elements in aerosol at the south Adriatic coast

Environmental Chemistry Letters, 2004
We applied statistical methods to the data of a 5-year sampling period to characterize the features of trace elements in airborne particulate matter at the South Adriatic Coast. The analysis of surface soil samples was also performed. The data were processed by cluster analysis, enrichment factor determination and receptor rose statistics.

South Adriatic Ecosystem: Interaction with the Mediterranean Sea

1999
The causes of irregular increase of primary production in the southern Adriatic waters are discussed. Increase of primary production is related to the periods of intensified inflows of the Mediterranean waters into the Adriatic Sea carrying higher nutrient quantities.

Chaetognaths in the South Adriatic: vertical distribution and feeding

Journal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, 2003
Feeding and vertical distribution of pelagic chaetognaths were studied at coastal and open-sea stations in the northern part of the South Adriatic Pit during five cruises from April 1993 to February 1995. Chaetognaths were more numerous in the upper 100 m, decreased conspicuously with depth, and were captured only rarely between 600 and 1000 m ...

Recent changes of the salinity distribution in the South Adriatic

2020

The South Adriatic is one of the dense water formation site in the Mediterranean Sea. The variations of its thermohaline properties are relevant not only from an oceanographic and climatic point of view but also for the local impact on the vertical distribution of the biogeochemical parameters.
<p& ...

Estimation of sedimentation rate in the Middle and South Adriatic Sea using 137Cs

Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2011
(137)Cs activity concentrations were studied in the sediment profiles collected at five locations in the Middle and South Adriatic. In the sediment profiles collected from the South Adriatic Pit, the deepest part of the Adriatic Sea, two (137)Cs peaks were identified.
