Ecosystem considerations of the KwaZulu-Natal sardine run [PDF]
The annual winter sardine run along the South African east coast impacts the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) coastal system in a variety of ways. These include ecological impacts, such as enrichment of a largely oligotrophic environment, competition between migrant ...

Is the management procedure approach equipped to handle short-lived pelagic species with their boom and bust dynamics? The case of the South African fishery for sardine and anchovy [PDF]
de Moor, C. L., Butterworth, D. S., and De Oliveira, J. A. A. 2011. Is the management procedure approach equipped to handle short-lived pelagic species with their boom and bust dynamics?

Base case assessment of the South African sardine resource
2007The assessment of the South African sardine resource is in the process of being updated. This document outlines the base case assessment which has been updated from the last assessment (Cunningham and Butterworth 2004) to take account of new data.

A Two Discrete Stock Hypothesis for South African Sardine Resource
2009The two discrete stock hypothesis for South African sardine has been extended. An improved fit to the data has been obtained. These results show that the hypothesis of two discrete stocks of sardine in South African waters can fit the observed data well.

Preliminary results from the base case assessment of the South African sardine resource
2007This document provides some preliminary results for the fit of the base case sardine assessment model at the posterior mode. The model is detailed in Cunningham and Butterworth (2007).

Some robustness tests to the Base Case assessment of the South African anchovy and sardine resources
2004Base case results for Bayesian assessments of the South African anchovy and sardine resources have recently been presented (Cunningham and Butterworth 2004a,b). The results at the posterior mode for some robustness tests to these base case assessments are presented here.

2005
Cunningham and Butterworth (2004d) presented some results of robustness tests to the base case assessments of South African sardine and anchovy resources. A comparison between some summary statistics resulting when the resources were projected using OMP-04 was also made. However, a few of those results were still preliminary, given the poor convergence

The results at the posterior mode for some robustness tests to the base case sardine and anchovy assessments were presented in Cunningham and Butterworth (2004x). These results are repeated here together with a few further tests, including a robustness test designed to mimic a perceived slower growth in sardine since 2000. New results presented in this
