Ultra‐Confinement of Polaritons in Single Atomic Layer Ag Photonic Quantum Dots

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Strong confinement of surface phonon polaritons of silicon carbide was achieved in photonic quantum dots fabricated from van der Waals heterostructure of epitaxial graphene over single‐atomic layer silver. Scattering‐type scanning near‐field optical microscopy combined with an analytical approach, developed to reveal local propagation constants with ...

Petrogenetic relationship between plutonic and subvolcanic rocks in the Jurassic Shuikoushan complex, South China

open access: yesOpen Geosciences
There has been a longstanding debate on whether plutonic and subvolcanic rocks have a petrogenetic connection, and the Jurassic Shuikoushan caldera complex in South China serves as an ideal case study for unraveling this geological puzzle.

US-China Competition and the South China Sea Disputes

open access: yes, 2018
Traditionally, the South China Sea (SCS) issue was not on the negotiation table between the United States and China. However, the tensions between the United States and China over the SCS have gradually simmered up to a strategic level.

n‐Type Polymer Radio Frequency Rectifiers Operating at 18.5 GHz

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Combining an n‐doped polymer semiconductor with wafer‐scale asymmetric planar electrodes featuring work function‐engineered contacts yields radio‐frequency diodes and rectifying circuits operating at up to 18.5 GHz. The devices combine scalable manufacturing with an operating frequency previously unattainable by large‐area organic electronics ...

Ostracods (Crustacea) associated with microbialites across the Permian-Triassic boundary in Dajiang (Guizhou Province, South China)

open access: yes, 2012
26 samples were processed for a taxonomic study of ostracods from the Upper Permian (Changhsingian) - Lower Triassic (Griesbachian) interval of the Dajiang section, Guizhou Province, South China. 112 species belonging to 27 genera are recognized.

Single Crystals of Perylene Diimide‐Based Two‐Dimensional Covalent Organic Frameworks

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Synthesizing extended crystals of two‐dimensional covalent organic frameworks (2D COFs) has remained a major challenge. Here, we report a high‐temperature double‐modulator strategy that provides access to new perylene diimide (PDI)‐based COFs with crystal sizes of up to 50 µm.

WILL THE SOUTH-CHINESE SEA BECOME THE CHINESE MARE NOSTRUM? MILITARY STRATEGIC AND FOREIGN POLICY ASPECT OF THE TERRITORIAL CLAIMS OF CHINA IN THE SOUTH-CHINESE SEA

open access: yesКонтуры глобальных трансформаций: политика, экономика, право, 2017
South-China Sea has been gradually becoming a place of collision of the USA as an acting global hegemon and growing China. Beijing is strongly interested in controlling this area for the purposes of national security as Washington intends to enhance its ...

Laser‐Assisted Phase Engineering of 2D MoS2 for Efficient Solution‐Processed Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Here, local laser‐assisted phase transition from solution‐processed phase‐pure 1T′ to 2H MoS2 is shown to critically depend on the irradiation atmosphere. While processing in air leads to damaged insulating regions, inert conditions yield semiconducting 2H domains, enabling direct field‐effect transistor patterning with optimized lateral 1T′‐2H MoS2 ...

China and the South China Sea resource grab

open access: yes, 2015
[Extract] Much recent political commentary has focused on the dispute between China and the Philippines in the South China Sea. There is widespread recognition that a key driver of the dispute is competition over the region's natural resources.

Designing Strong, Tough, Fire‐Retardant and Self‐Healing Elastomers with Phosphorus/Nitrogen‐ and Biphenyl‐Containing Segments

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
By designing a P/N‐ and π–π interacting biphenyl‐containing diol as hard segments but side groups, a strong, tough, fire‐extinguishing and self‐healing elastomer is developed, demonstrating a break strain of ∼2500%, a toughness of 379 MJ/m3 and a tensile strength of 46 MPa, as well as a healing efficiency of 95% (tensile strength) and 99% (break strain)
