A review of the historic and present ecological role of aquatic and shoreline wood, from forest to deep sea

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The ecology of forests, their losses, and terrestrial wood decomposition dynamics have been intensively studied and reviewed. In the aquatic realm, reviews have concentrated on large wood (LW) in rivers and the transition from freshwater to marine environments in the Pacific Northwest of North America. Strontium isotope analysis reveals prehistoric mobility patterns in the southeastern Baltic area

open access: yesArchaeological and Anthropological Sciences, 2022
We measured 87Sr/86Sr for all available human remains (n = 40) dating from the Mesolithic to the Bronze Age (ca. 6400–800 cal BC) in Lithuania. In addition, local baselines of archaeological fauna from the same area were constructed. We identified significant and systematic offsets between 87Sr/86Sr values of modern soils and animals and archaeological

Synchronisation of Extreme Precipitation and Sea Surface Temperature Events in the Northern Hemisphere: A Complex Network Approach

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Using complex network theory and event synchronisation, we find distinct spatiotemporal structures of extreme precipitation and sea surface temperature events across the Northern Hemisphere. Our results show strong local and long‐range connectivity in terrestrial extremes, driven by atmospheric dynamics, contrasting with more localised marine extremes ...

Trends and Circulation Conditions of Precipitation Over the Sudeten Mountains (Central Europe) in the Years 1961–2020

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Significant trends of precipitation totals are visible at seasonal (negative in spring and positive in winter) and monthly level. The deepening rainfall deficit in April in Western Sudetes threatens the stabilisation of forest ecosystems, the preservation of biodiversity and significantly limits water resources for economic use.

Dynamic parameters of weak earthquakes on the southeastern slope of the Baltic Shield

open access: yesRussian Journal of Seismology, 2022
The dynamic parameters of earthquake sources characterize the features of the process of destruction of the seismogenic medium. These parameters are defined in the world for earthquakes of different magnitudes and different genesis. For the seismically weakly active region of Fennoscandia, the source characteristics of earthquakes were characterized in
