Galapagos rise in the southeastern Pacific

Deep Sea Research and Oceanographic Abstracts, 1964
Abstract An oceanic rise, the Galapagos Rise, exists in the southeast Pacific between the East Pacific Rise and South America. It is faulted into segments by transverse fracture zones and is seismically active in some portions. The Galapagos Rise appears to extend from Panama to Chile and the previously known Chile Rise may form the southern part.

Energetics of southeastern Pacific cut-off lows

Climate Dynamics, 2015
The existence of cut-off lows (COLs) over South Pacific and South America is often associated with adverse weather events such as intense precipitation over the central region of South America, frost episodes in southern Brazil and the development of Andes lee cyclones and intense cyclones over the southern coast of Brazil. Despite this importance, the

The coastal salinity budget of the Southeastern Pacific Ocean

2021
<p>As one of the most productive ecosystems in the world, the Southeastern Pacific Ocean (SPO) coastal zone is economically important to the countries of the region. Dynamically the SPO coastal zone is influenced by the Patagonian Icefields and the large-scale circulation of the open Pacific Ocean, both of which are sensitive to climate ...

Low-Frequency Atmospheric Oscillations over the Southeastern Pacific

Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences, 1987
A 40-50 day atmospheric oscillation has recently been reported in the southeastern Pacific based on analyses of satellite-derived microwave brightness temperature data. Prior to this, such oscillations have not been generally recognized in this region.

Status of Pacific Salmon and Steelhead Escapements in Southeastern Alaska

Fisheries, 1996
Abstract We evaluated the status of Pacific salmon and steelhead (Oncorhynchus mykiss) in southeastern Alaska. Of 9,296 spawning aggregates identified in this region, some data were available for 4,009 (43%), and 928 (10%) had sufficient information to analyze for escapement trend. Of those analyzed, 333 (36%) were increasing, 556 (60%) were stable, 37

Ocean color variability in the southern Atlantic and southeastern Pacific

SPIE Proceedings, 2012
The chlorophyll-a concentration (Chl a ) of surface waters is commonly retrieved from space using an empirical polynomial function of the maximum band ratio (MBR), i.e., the maximum ratio of remote sensing reflectance in selected spectral bands in the visible. Recent studies have revealed significant deviations in the relation between MBR and Chl a
