Biogeographical patterns of benthic macroinvertebrates in the Southeastern Pacific littoral

Journal of Biogeography, 1999
Summary Aim To use new collections and taxonomic reviews of the Chilean coastal biota, and studies on biodiversity on a reappraisal of Southeastern Pacific littoral biogeography. Location The temperate coastline of the Southeastern Pacific, extending over 6000 km from northern Peru to the southern tip of Chile.

Fibropapillomatosis in a Green Sea Turtle (Chelonia mydas) from the Southeastern Pacific

Journal of Wildlife Diseases, 2019
Fibropapillomatosis is a neoplastic disease that afflicts sea turtles. Although it is disseminated worldwide, cases of the disease have not been reported in the southeastern Pacific region. We describe a case of fibropapillomatosis in a green sea turtle ( Chelonia mydas) during its rehabilitation at the Machalilla National Park Rehabilitation Center ...

A new deep-water Astyris species (Buccinoidea: Columbellidae) from the southeastern Pacific

Zootaxa, 2016
Marine mollusks from northern Chile and from the Región de Atacama in particular have been sparsely documented, and only a few works have reviewed the area (see Araya & Araya, 2015; Labrín et al. 2015; Araya & Valdés 2016). Mollusks from deep water and offshore areas are one of the least known groups and, apart from some classic works from the ...

Ocean-Cloud-Atmosphereland Interactions in the Southeastern Pacific

American Meteorological Society. Bulletin, 2014
The present paper describes the Variability of the American Monsoon Systems (VAMOS) Ocean-Cloud-Atmosphere-Land Study (VOCALS), an international research program focused on the improved understanding and modeling of the southeastern Pacific (SEP) climate system on diurnal to interannual time scales.

Down under the southeastern Pacific: marine non-indigenous species in Chile

Biological Invasions, 2005
This article presents the first compilation of marine non-indigenous species (NIS) of algae and macro-invertebrates invading Chilean waters. A total of 32 cosmopolitan and non-cosmopolitan species are reported. Among them there are six species considered as extending their southern range of distribution in connection with El Nino events.

Abyssal circulation of the southeastern Pacific and some geological implications

Journal of Geophysical Research, 1976
The abyssal circulation of the Pacific Ocean east of the East Pacific Rise is deduced from hydrographic data, supported by a few direct current measurements. Two main flow paths are recognized: across the Chile Rise into the Chile Basin, and thence northward into the Peru Basin and Panama Basin; and eastward across the East Pacific Rise into the ...

Air–sea carbon dioxide fluxes in the coastal southeastern tropical Pacific

Progress in Oceanography, 2008
Comprehensive sea surface surveys of the partial pressure of carbon dioxide (pCO2) have been made in the upwelling system of the coastal (0–200 km from shore) southeastern tropical Pacific since 2004. The shipboard data have been supplemented by mooring and drifter based observations. Air–sea flux estimates were made by combining satellite derived wind

Fishes eaten by Alepisaurus (Pisces, Iniomi) in the southeastern Pacific Ocean

Deep Sea Research and Oceanographic Abstracts, 1966
Abstract Annotated identifications of 32 species (21 families) of fishes from the stomachs of Alepisaurus and tunas longlined in the southeastern Pacific Ocean are presented. Many are recorded from this region for the first time. A comparison between these fishes and fishes from North Atlantic Alepisaurus revealed that 39% of the species were ...

2020
The invasive brittle star Ophiothela mirabilis (family Ophiotrichidae), a tropical Indo-Pacific endemic species, first reported in Atlantic waters off southern Brazil in 2000, has extended its range northward to the Caribbean Sea, to the Lesser Antilles in 2011, and was first reported in south Florida in January 2019.
