Redbanded stink bug, Piezodorus guildinii (Westwood): pest status, control strategies, and management in Louisiana soybean [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The redbanded stink bug, Piezodorus guildinii (Westwood), was identified as a pest of Louisiana soybean during 2000. Currently, this species has become established throughout Louisiana and into the soybean production regions of bordering states. Seasonal

Multilocus sequence typing of the invasive pest Halyomorpha halys (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) and associated endosymbiont reveals unexplored diversity

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
A multilocus sequence typing approach is proposed to explore Halymorpha halys genetic diversity, taking into consideration both insect nuclear markers and markers from the gut symbiont “Candidatus Pantoa carbekii.” Increased information was revealed regarding the number of distinct holobiont haplotypes in native and invasive populations of the pest ...

Resurvey of the Pentatomoidea (Heteroptera) of the La Rue-Pine Hills Research Natural Area in Union County, Illinois [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A resurvey of the Pentatomoidea of the La Rue-Pine Hills Research Natural Area was conducted from September 1992 to June 1995 and the results compared with those of an earlier survey by McPherson and Mohlenbrock (1976).

Ant–aphid mutualism: the influence of Tapinoma ibericum (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) on Aphis gossypii (Hemiptera: Aphidae) control by commercial and spontaneous natural enemies

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
The mutualism between Tapinoma ibericum ants and Aphis gossypii disrupts the biological control exerted by Aphidius colemani in greenhouse peppers. Ant exclusion increased parasitism and the presence of most natural enemies, although Aphidoletes aphidimyza was more abundant with ants.

Soybean Yield along the Texas Gulf Coast during Periods of Variable Rainfall as Influenced by Soybean Cultivar and Planting Date

open access: yesInternational Journal of Agronomy, 2011
Soybeans (Glycine max) can be planted along the upper Texas Gulf Coast from mid-March through May to take advantage of early season rains and to complete harvest before hurricane season and fall rains become a problem.

Stink Bug Feeding Induces Fluorescence in Developing Cotton Bolls [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background Stink bugs (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) comprise a critically important insect pest complex affecting 12 major crops worldwide including cotton. In the US, stink bug damage to developing cotton bolls causes boll abscission, lint staining, reduced

Assessing the host plants of the invasive apricot aphid, Myzus mumecola (Hemiptera: Aphididae)

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
We investigated the host plants of the invasive apricot aphid Myzus mumecola (Hemiptera: Aphididae), an emerging pest species in Europe, by combining molecular and ecological approaches. The winter host plant was confirmed as apricot by both methods.

The Stink Bugs (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) of Missouri [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The stink bug (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) fauna of Missouri was last treated more than 70 years ago. Since then, many more specimens have become available for study, substantial papers on regional faunas have been published, and many revisions and other ...

Efficacy of Selected Commercial Bio‐Products in Disrupting Symbiont Acquisition and Survival of Halyomorpha halys (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae)

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
Targeting the symbiont Candidatus Pantoea carbekii offers a novel way to manage the invasive brown marmorated stink bug (Halyomorpha halys). Among the three commercial bio‐products tested, Dentamet significantly reduced symbiont acquisition and caused up to 75% nymphal mortality in laboratory conditions, which was confirmed by quantitative Real‐Time ...
