A global latitudinal decline in breeding site fidelity emerges from a single biome

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Species that breed in multiple years can either return to the same location to reproduce between seasons or disperse to a different location. Previous studies have shown that breeding site fidelity varies with species‐ and individual‐specific traits, but much of the observed variation remains unexplained.

Wolves and humans both shape patterns of deer browsing in a temperate forest ecosystem of Central Europe

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Predator–prey interactions can trigger behavioural responses in ungulates, influencing their space‐use and foraging behaviour and, in turn, indirectly affecting browsing pressure. Changes in browsing pressure can affect plant recruitment and species composition, shaping forest regeneration through predator‐mediated trophic cascades.

Long‐distance pollen transport mediated by migratory hoverflies

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Long‐distance animal migrations shape ecosystems by redistributing nutrients, connecting populations, and mediating ecological interactions. However, the ecological contributions of many abundant insect migrants remain poorly quantified. Hoverflies are among the most numerous migratory insects and highly efficient pollinators, suggesting that their ...

Forecasting heart failure: Seasonal alignment of heart failure outcomes in New York

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 819-831, April 2025.
Abstract Background Seasonal variations have been observed in heart failure (HF) hospitalization. Numerous explanatory mechanisms have been proposed, but no prior studies have examined potential contributors directly. Our objective was to identify specific factors that could contribute to seasonal variability using a large longitudinal dataset of HF ...

Trends in Southern Hemisphere circulation in IPCC AR4 models over 1950-99: Ozone depletion versus greenhouse forcing

open access: yes, 2007
Simulations by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fourth Assessment Report (AR4) models on the Southern Hemisphere (SH) circulation are assessed over the period 1950–99, focusing on the seasonality of the trend and the level of its ...

The effectiveness of adding on or switching antiseizure medications after the first fails to control focal epilepsy: A systematic review of randomized controlled trials

open access: yesEpileptic Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract Focal epilepsy constitutes 60–70% of epilepsy, and up to half of patients do not achieve seizure freedom with their first antiseizure medication (ASM). When the first ASM fails, evidence guiding whether to switch or add‐on another ASM and which ASMs to use is limited. This review synthesized evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on
