Drought Stress Mediated Changes in Food Crops: Mechanisms and Remediation Strategies

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents a multi‐scale framework for flavonoid‐mediated drought tolerance in staple food crops, integrating ROS redox regulation, antioxidant defense, rhizosphere microbial interactions, and sustainable agronomic practices. This interdisciplinary model provides core insights to develop climate‐resilient cropping systems and enhance global ...

Low Latency Global Carbon Budget Reveals Late 2024 Carbon Losses and Contrasting Early 2025 Land Sink Recovery Signals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Low latency carbon budget estimates for July 2024–June 2025 combine atmospheric CO2 growth rates, fossil emissions, ocean uptake, DGVM land fluxes, and OCO‐2 inversions. The budget shows that late‐2024 land carbon losses dominate the annual anomaly, while early‐2025 recovery differs between bottom‐up models and top‐down inversions, especially in ...

Rainfall reductions over Southern Hemisphere semi-arid regions: The role of subtropical dry zone expansion

open access: yes, 2012
Since the late 1970s, Southern Hemisphere semi-arid regions such as southern-coastal Chile, southern Africa and southeastern Australia have experienced a drying trend in austral autumn, predominantly during April and May. The rainfall reduction coincides

Rapid restratification of the ocean surface boundary layer during the suppressed phase of the MJO in austral spring

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2022
Rapid restratification of the ocean surface boundary layer in the Indonesian-Australian Basin was captured in austral spring 2018, under the conditions of low wind speed and clear sky during the suppressed phase of Madden–Julian Oscillations (MJOs ...

TH/TRs–COL11A2 Axis Mediates Loss of a Differentiated Astrocyte State in Hypogyrified Brains

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using a gyrencephalic congenital hypothyroidism pig model, this study reveals cerebral atrophy and cortical hypogyrification. Single‐cell sequencing identifies astrocytes as major TH‐responsive cells, with the COL11A2‐enriched Astro‐2 state nearly absent.

Variable Climates Lead to Varying Phenotypes: “Weird” Mammalian Torpor and Lessons From Non-Holarctic Species

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2020
Mammalian heterotherms, species that employ short or long periods of torpor, are found in many different climatic regions. Although the underlying physiological mechanisms of heterothermy in species from lower latitudes (i.e., the tropics and southern ...

Quarantine is important in restricting the spread of exotic seed-borne tree pathogens in the southern hemisphere [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The lack or destruction of indigenous forests in the southern hemisphere has in some cases led to extensive afforestation with exotic softwoods that subsequently developed into large successful forestry industries.
