The calving glaciers of southern South America
Global and Planetary Change, 1999Abstract Calving glaciers constitute a great majority of all glaciers in Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego, and are dynamically important elements of the southern South American icefields. Large numbers of tidewater glaciers calve into the Chilean fjords, and many outlet glaciers terminate in proglacial lakes.

Darwin the geologist in southern South America
Earth Sciences History, 2016Charles Darwin was a reputable geologist before he achieved biological fame. Most of his geological research was accomplished in southern South America during the voyage of H.M.S. Beagle (1831–1836). Afterward he published four books and several articles about geology and coral atolls and became active in the Geological Society of London.

Historical Biogeography of Southern South America
Systematic Biology, 1991Historical biogeograpohic patterns of relationships among southern and northern South America, North America, and southern temperate areas were investigated by a cladistic biogeographic analysis of 17 taxon cladograms. Three techniques were applied: Wiley's biogeographic parsimony analysis, Nelson and Platnick's component analysis, and Humphries ...

Younger Dryas in southern South America?
Boreas, 1991Two high resolution pollen records, Caunahue from mid‐latitudes and Harberton from high latitudes, illustrate the issues in defining the Younger Dryas episode in records from southern South America. At mid‐latitudes in the Chilean lake region, previous claims for the existence of a substantially cooler and wetter episode between 11,000 and 10,000 BP ...

Cretaceous paleogeography of southern South America
Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology, 1987Abstract During Berriasian-Hauterivian times the Andean regions north of 38°S and south of 42°S were occupied by two magmatic island arcs and two back-arc marine basins, the Andean and Austral Basins. At the same time the Chubut Basin of central Patagonia was being filled with continental sediments. In northern Argentina and Bolivia, the Aimara Basin

Phanerozoic Correlation in Southern South America
1995A major characteristic of the oil industry is that geologic data tend to be kept within each company. In South America, where state-owned companies and exploration monopolies predominate, there are many datasets and many different interpretations. These "virgin" data constitute a valuable basis for assembling a correlation study across the continent ...

Atmospheric Rivers in Southern South America
Atmospheric rivers (ARs) are long, narrow bands of strong moisture transport, most often located in the warm sector of extratropical cyclones. The advances in atmospheric science in the early 21st century have demonstrated that ARs are a key component of the climate and the global water cycle by transporting vast amounts of water vapor from tropical ...Maximiliano Viale +2 more
