The Southern Tyrrhenian seafloor (south of the 41° Parallel line) hosts a large number of Miocene to Quaternary volcanoes ranging in composition from MORB- to OIB- and arc-type. MORB-type rocks are concentrated in the Vavilov Basin, but their role is evident for other Tyrrhenian Sea volcanoes.

Maja goltziana d'oliveira, 1888 (Decapoda, Brachyura, Majidae) in the southern Tyrrhenian Sea
Crustaceana, 2005Maja goltziana d'Oliveira, 1888 is an oxyrhynch crab occurring in the eastern Atlantic Ocean from Portugal to Congo and the Canary Islands, and in the Mediterranean Sea (d'Udekem d'Acoz, 1999). It is apparently uncommon all across its distributional range, although González Pérez (1995) describes it as a frequent species on the Canary Islands.

Deep-sea (250–1,550 m) Benthic Thanatocoenoses from the Southern Tyrrhenian Sea
2001Bathyal benthic thanatocoenoses from 28 stations in the Southern Tyrrhenian Sea are studied, focusing on molluscs, bryozoans and serpulids. On the basis of faunal affinities, sampled stations were grouped into three bathymetrical belts: “A” (248–505 m), “B” (696–1,096 m) and “C” (1,139–1,536 m).

Cephalopods assemblages from the southern Tyrrhenian Sea
2004The teuthofauna assemblages of the southern Tyrrhenian sea were studied utilising data derived from five International Medits bottom trawl surveys. A total of 25 cephalopod species were found between 18 and 652 m depth. The assemblages were analysed with Bray-Curtis similarity index.

Isostasy and paleotemperatures in the Southern Tyrrhenian Basin, Mediterranean Sea
Marine Geophysical Researches, 2007The present-day basement depth of the seafloor in the absence of sediment loading was inferred along a traverse crossing the Southern Tyrrhenian Basin. A correction for sediment loading was proposed on the basis of density, seismic velocity and porosity data from selected deep boreholes.

Gamma-ray activity in the volcanic islands of the Southern Tyrrhenian Sea
Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, 2003Field gamma-ray spectrometry was used for the quantitative assessment of U, Th and K of rocks of Stromboli, Salina, Filicuidi and Panarea (Aeolian arc of the Southern Tyrrhenian, Italy).
