Nemertean Larval Dispersion Across Biogeographic Provinces of Southwest Atlantic

open access: yesZoological Science, 2020
The nemertean Malacobdella arrokeana is a commensal of the edible giant bivalve Panopea abbreviata; both species have a restricted geographic distribution, high specificity and populations settled along distinct biogeographic provinces. This supposes a high genetic structuring among populations and low intra-populational variability; nevertheless, a ...

A review of the knowledge of reef fish in the Southwest Atlantic

Marine Environmental Research, 2022
Reef environments are rapidly transforming worldwide, and these changes are causing major impacts to the reef ecosystem. Scientific knowledge is strategic for marine conservation and management in these scenarios. Aiming to contribute to this subject, a systematic review from 1967 to 2020 was conducted, in order to identify gaps in studies regarding ...

Water mass gradients of the mid-depth Southwest Atlantic during the past 25,000 years

open access: yesEarth and Planetary Science Letters, 2020
Highlights • Five new authigenic Nd isotope records from the mid-depth Southwest Atlantic. • The Holocene εNd depth gradient is indicative of the different water masses.

Abyssal eddy in the southwest Atlantic

Deep Sea Research Part B. Oceanographic Literature Review, 1986
Abstract A subsurface anticyclonic eddy has been observed in the southwestern Atlantic (46°S, 53°30′W) between 2800 and 4800 m. Within this feature is a nearly homogeneous core, composed of water identical to the bottom water of the Falkland Plateau, about 700 km to the southeast.

Bioaccumulation of heavy metals in estuaries in the southwest Atlantic Ocean

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2022
The southwestern Atlantic Ocean is home to highly productive regions, composed of a mosaic of both protected and anthropogenically impacted areas, including the estuaries of Paranaguá, Cananéia, and Santos. In this study, concentrations of metals were measured in sediments and in marine organisms, collected from these three Brazilian estuaries.

Mercury in trophic webs of estuaries in the southwest Atlantic Ocean

Marine Pollution Bulletin, 2021
Anthropogenic activities have impacted the coastal region of Brazil. In the Paranaguá estuarine complex (PEC), Cananéia-Iguape estuarine-lagoon complex (CIELC), and Santos-São Vicente estuarine complex (SSVEC), such activities occur across differing scales.

Assessing neodymium isotopes as an ocean circulation tracer in the Southwest Atlantic [PDF]

open access: yesEarth and Planetary Science Letters, 2022
The global overturning ocean circulation plays a key role in global climate by distributing heat around the Earth and by triggering or amplifying major climate changes.
