Space debris: modeling and detectability
SPIE Proceedings, 2017High precision orbit determination is required for the detection and removal of space debris. Knowledge of the distribution of debris objects in orbit is necessary for orbit determination by active or passive sensors. The results can be used to investigate the orbits on which objects of a certain size at a certain frequency can be found.

Electromagnetic pinned solitons for space debris detection
Physics of Plasmas, 2023Electromagnetic “pinned” solitons in the form of stationary nonlinear waves are studied within the framework of an inertial magneto-hydrodynamic model. These structures, that can arise when a charged source moves in a magnetized plasma, have a velocity that is equal to the source velocity and, hence, appear as “pinned” structures that envelope the ...

Space debris detection in optical image sequences
Applied Optics, 2016We present a high-accuracy, low false-alarm rate, and low computational-cost methodology for removing stars and noise and detecting space debris with low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in optical image sequences. First, time-index filtering and bright star intensity enhancement are implemented to remove stars and noise effectively.

Simulation System for Space Debris Intelligent Detecting
2021Space debris has become a major potential safety hazard to the on-orbit spacecraft, which must be considered when launching a spacecraft. A simulation verification system which ground-based and can simulate the debris detecting onboard was established. The system consists of three sub-systems.

The application of lidar in detecting space debris
SPIE Proceedings, 2008The accumulation of space debris is expected to present an increasing threat to orbital aerostat. To develop and use space resource continually and in security the detecting technology for space debris has to be improved. The paper firstly introduces the concept of space debris and their common detection means, and then introduces the application of

Space Debris Detection and Analysis
1994Abstract : A 40 cm telescope with an intensified CCD detector and video recording was used to detect space-debris objects. Participation in the ODERACS experiment showed that objects as small as 5 cm could be detected with this size telescope. Image analysis techniques were tested to enhance the low S/N debris streaks in the recorded video signals, and

Research on active and passive detection for space debris
AOPC 2017: Optical Sensing and Imaging Technology and Applications, 2017With the increasing frequency of human space activities, the number of spacecraft and space debris on track is increasing. In order to process the information of debris after detecting it in a very short time and reduce the size, weight and power consumption of the detection system at the same time, an active and passive composite optical detection ...

Space-borne radar detection of orbital debris
Proceedings of GLOBECOM '93. IEEE Global Telecommunications Conference, 2002Orbital debris in low-Earth-orbit (LEG) poses an increasing threat to the Space Station Freedom (SSF). A combined ground-based/on-orbit radar detection system can provide adequate warning to minimize the collision threat. The paper discusses the unique features on an on-board radar, its contributions to solving the problem, simulation results from ...

Analysis of Defocus in Space Based Space Optical Debris Detection
ACTA PHOTONICA SINICA, 2016the reasons of the generation of defocus were discussed and the defocus change was analysed from the relative distance, atmospheric pressure and temperature change. the modulation transfer function model was proposed to study the image quality influenced by defocus. then different defocus value leading image blurry was simulated. the simulation results
