Abstract We consider a space elevator system for lunar surface access that consists of a space station in circumlunar orbit, a cable reaching down to some meters above the surface and a magnetically levitated vehicle driven by a linear motor. It accelerates the load to be lifted to the speed of the cable end.

Innovation and Research for Space Elevators
Journal of the British Interplanetary Society, 2023Progress continues on suitable materials for constructing the tether of a space elevator. Graphene super laminate is the most promising, and manufacturers are already producing significant quantities of graphene. Work is also continuing on a multi-stage space elevator, supported dynamically using magnetic levitation; the advantage is that it can be ...

Abstract Many papers have been published on engineering and economic aspects of the Space Elevator. The Elevator, however, is a very special and unusual astronomical body. Its behavior in space is affected not only by the attraction of the Earth and by the “centrifugal force” but also by the attraction of the Sun and the Moon, by the detailed shape ...

On dimension elevation in Quasi Extended Chebyshev spaces
Numerische Mathematik, 2008The present paper is motivated by one of the results on a dimension elevation process involving numbers \(p, q\) and a chosen integer \(n\) with \(p=q \geq 3\) and \(2 \leq n \leq p-1 \), proved by \textit{P. Costantini, T. Lyche} and \textit{C. Manni} [Numer. Math. 101, No. 2, 333--354 (2005; Zbl 1085.41002)].

Elevators, social spaces and racism
Philosophy & Social Criticism, 2008There has been a great deal of philosophical analysis supporting the position that race is semantically empty, ontologically bankrupt and scientifically meaningless. The conclusion often reached is that race is a social construction. While this position is certainly accepted by the majority of philosophers working within the area of critical race ...

A hoist to the heavens [space elevators
IEEE Spectrum, 2005This paper discusses the possibility of using space elevators as an alternative to rocket boosters for space exploration. With the advent of carbon nanotube composites, the space elevator concept has fast been gaining mainstream acceptance. With a space elevator providing cheap, easy, low-risk access to space, people's lives on Earth could be ...

The space elevator: a new tool for space studies.
Gravitational and space biology bulletin : publication of the American Society for Gravitational and Space Biology, 2003The objective has been to develop a viable scenario for the construction, deployment and operation of a space elevator using current or near future technology. This effort has been primarily a paper study with several experimental tests of specific systems. Computer simulations, engineering designs, literature studies and inclusion of existing programs
