AIBS Bulletin, 1962
THE accomplishment of a manned lunar landing will involve manned spacecraft, powerful boosters, complex rendezvous operations in space, world-wide communication and tracking networks, and gigantic production and launch facilities. The programs for such an endeavor are well underway.

Over the decades a large number of people touched the life of Wally Schirra in so many ways, and he had a surprising recollection for people he had met, quite often attaching a pun to their names. One person who sometimes shared in Wally’s pressure-relieving “gotchas” during the early 1960s was a wonderfully talented woman who will be forever (and ...

Space flight and the immune system
Vaccine, 1993Depression of lymphocyte response to mitogens in cosmonauts after space flight was reported for the first time in the early 1970s by Soviet immunologists. Today we know that depression of lymphocyte function affects at least 50% of space crew members.

Artificial Gravity in Space Flight
1994Clearly, physiologic adaptation to terrestrial life for all animals is assured only by frequent encounters with gravity. Indeed, upon exposure to weightlessness in space flight, losses of physiologic functions quickly begin. Some physiologic parameters change more rapidly than others, but the deconditioning process starts rapidly.

Space Flight and Bone Formation
Materialwissenschaft und Werkstofftechnik, 2004AbstractMajor physiological changes which occur during spaceflight include bone loss, muscle atrophy, cardiovascular and immune response alterations. When trying to determine the reason why bone loss occurs during spaceflight, one must remember that all these other changes in physiology and metabolism may also have impact on the skeletal system.

The Biomedical Challenges of Space Flight
Annual Review of Medicine, 2003Space medicine has evolved considerably through past U.S. missions. It has been proven that humans can live and work in space for long durations and that humans are integral to mission success. The space medicine program of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) looks toward future long-duration missions.

Space flight visual simulation
Acta Astronautica, 1985In this paper, based on the scenes of stars seen by astronauts in their orbital flights, we have studied the mathematical model which must be constructed for CGI system to realize the space flight visual simulation. Considering such factors as the revolution and rotation of the Earth, exact date, time and site of orbital injection of the spacecraft, as
