Current Trends and Future Perspective for Cold Spray Metal‐Ceramic Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The use of cold spray (CS) technology for creating cermet deposits, combining ceramic and metallic components, is advancing rapidly. Cermets offer excellent temperature handling and erosion resistance for diverse applications. This review outlines the current state of the art, focusing on the deposition dynamics and strategies to optimize the ...

Non‐Destructive and Mechanical Characterization of the Bond Quality of Co‐Extruded Titanium‐Aluminum Profiles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the bond quality of co‐extruded aluminum–titanium hybrid profiles, focusing on the lateral angular co‐extrusion (LACE) process. It examines how heat treatments (HT) affect intermetallic phase formation, bond strength, and material properties.

Performance Characterization of Heliotrope Solar Hot-Air Balloons during Multihour Stratospheric Flights [PDF]

open access: yes
Heliotropes are passive solar hot air balloons that are capable of achieving nearly level flight within the lower stratosphere for several hours. These inexpensive flight platforms enable stratospheric sensing with high-cadence enabled by the low cost to manufacture, but their performance has not yet been assessed systematically.

The Effects of Space Weather on Flight Delays [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Although the sun is really far away from us, some solar activities could still influence the performance and reliability of space-borne and ground-based technological systems on Earth. Those time-varying conditions in space caused by the sun are also called space weather, as the atmospheric conditions that can affect weather on the ground.

Beyond Global Mechanical Properties: Bioinspired Triply‐Periodic Minimal Surface Cellular Solids for Efficient Mechanical Design and Optimization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Using novel probe‐based metrics, this study evaluates lattice structures on criteria critical to cellular solid optimization. Triply‐periodic minimal surface (TPMS) lattices outperform other lattices, offering more predictable mechanical behavior in complex design spaces and, as a result, higher performance in optimized models.

Ocean Temperature Profiling Lidar: Analysis of Technology and Potential for Rapid Ocean Observations

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Development of ocean measurement technologies can improve monitoring of the global Ocean Heat Content (OHC) and Heat Storage Rate (HSR) that serve as early-warning indices for climate-critical circulation processes such as the Atlantic Meridional ...

Tropospheric ozone variability in the tropics from ENSO to MJO and shorter timescales [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2015
Aura OMI and MLS measurements are combined to produce daily maps of tropospheric ozone beginning October 2004. We show that El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) related inter-annual change in tropospheric ozone in the tropics is small in relation to ...
