An Upper Bound on Carbon Emissions of Drained Peat Soil Grasslands From Satellite Radar Interferometry

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 10, 28 May 2026.
Abstract Drained and cultivated grasslands on peat soils behave as a significant source of greenhouse gasses by oxidation. However, the lack of empirical estimates of carbon losses from peatlands with adequate spatial and temporal resolution has forced researchers to rely on process‐based model approximations to make quantitative, regional‐ or national‐

GRENet: GNSS‐Enhanced Radar Extrapolation Network for Precipitation Nowcasting

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 10, 28 May 2026.
Abstract Accurate precipitation nowcasting is one of the most challenging tasks in atmospheric sciences. The current methods of nowcasting primarily rely on inferring precipitation from radar reflectivity, which inevitably leads to uncertainties in forecasts due to the limitations of single radar data in capturing the detailed initial conditions of ...

Spin Transition of Fe3+ in δ‐(Al,Fe)OOH and Implication for Mid‐Lower Mantle Seismic Heterogeneities

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 10, 28 May 2026.
Abstract δ‐(Al,Fe)OOH is an important water carrier and plays a critical role on Earth's deep water cycle. Lattice parameters of δ‐(Al0.89Fe0.11)OOH were measured by synchrotron single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction at simultaneously high temperature and pressure up to 65 GPa and 800 K in diamond anvil cells.

Seismic Precursors to the Blatten, Switzerland Landslide Revealed by Unsupervised Machine Learning

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 10, 28 May 2026.
Abstract The transition from stable to unstable states in geological systems, such as landslides and fault zones, remains poorly understood. Seismic precursors and foreshocks related to the transition, if present, are often difficult to observe, and their interpretation remains challenging.
