Carboxylic‐Acid Functionalized Multiwalled Carbon Nanotube‐Alkane‐Based Resistive Temperature Sensor for Cold Chain Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a reversible temperature sensor with high switching ratio, ∼103. The device is fabricated using PET‐ITO and carbon nanotube dispersions in alkane. Considering its application in cold chain logistics, a proof‐of‐concept with LED is showcased. Thus, a temperature drop below the threshold temperature (crystallization temperature of the

High-speed free-space laser communication [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The laser communication system proposed here for short-distance horizontal ground links and for the link between a ground station and a geostationary satellite will provide eye-safe and power-efficient communication by using a wavelength between 1.5 and 2.2 µm.

NASA Space Laser Communications System

open access: yesSafety & Defense, 2020
Bidirectional space communication is a fundamental prerequisite for maintaining contact with objects performing missions in space, whether manned and unmanned. Until recently, it relied solely on the propagation of electromagnetic waves (the radio) using frequency bands dedicated for objects outside the Earth's atmosphere.

Precipitation Simulations of the O‐Phase in Ti2AlNb Alloys Processed by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Simulated and experimental evolution of the O‐phase volume fraction during postprocessing of a Ti‐21Al‐25Nb (at.%) alloy processed by laser powder bed fusion. With results of sensitivity to input parameters from a thorough and quantified analysis, the interfacial energy matrix/precipitate is the most relevant input parameter for the simulation of the O‐

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Texoskeletons: Developing the Fundamental Technologies for Creating Intelligent Soft Robotic Clothing With Integrated 1D Sensors and Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Traditional wearable exoskeletons rely on rigid structures, which limit comfort, flexibility, and everyday usability. This work introduces the fundamental technologies to create the first soft, lightweight, intelligent textile‐based exoskeletons (Texoskeletons) built using 1D sensors and actuators.
