Perception of the Body in Space: Mechanisms [PDF]

open access: yes
The principal topic is the perception of body orientation and motion in space and the extent to which these perceptual abstraction can be related directly to the knowledge of sensory mechanisms, particularly for the vestibular apparatus.

Room Temperature Pulsed Laser Deposition of Aluminum Zinc Oxide (AZO): Enabling Scalable Indium‐Free Transparent Conductive Oxides

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 13, March 25, 2025.
The pulsed laser deposition (PLD) of aluminium‐doped zinc oxide (AZO) at room temperature yields stable, highly conductive and transparent films that match indium tin oxide (ITO) in optical and electrical properties, while not relying on scarce indium.

A Bayesian model for visual space perception [PDF]

open access: yes
A model for visual space perception is proposed that contains desirable features in the theories of Gibson and Brunswik. This model is a Bayesian processor of proximal stimuli which contains three important elements: an internal model of the Markov ...

Programmable Mechanochromic Time Integrators

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 13, March 25, 2025.
A mechanochromic time integrator is introduced that produces eye‐discernible readouts in response to the duration of strain while offering high sensitivity over a wide strain range and the ability to memorize the strain information. Strain‐induced droplet deformation causes a reflective color change over time through the exchange of cholesteric liquid ...

Perfect Ultraviolet Absorbers via Disordered Polarizonic Metasurfaces for Multiband Camouflage and Stealth Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 14, April 3, 2025.
An ultrathin polarizonic metasurface achieves multiband camouflage and stealth with near‐perfect ultraviolet (UV) absorption, visible light blending, and infrared signature masking. Leveraging earth‐abundant materials, this design creates a reflective color palette through polarizonic effects, integrating transparent and non‐plasmonic materials.

Evaluation of depth perception in crowded volumes [PDF]

open access: yes
Depth perception in volumetric visualization plays a crucial role in the understanding and interpretation of volumetric data. Numerous visualization techniques, many of which rely on physically based optical effects, promise to improve depth perception but often do so without considering camera movement or the content of the volume.

Where creativity comes from: the social spaces of embodied minds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
This paper explores creative design, social interaction and perception. It proposes that creativity at a social level is not a result of many individuals trying to be creative at a personal level, but occurs naturally in the social interaction between ...
