Coming out of the woodwork [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
‘Coming Out of the Woodwork’ was a curatorial and installation art project, bringing together three artsits (Mark Selby, Richard Cramp and Joe Watling) who similarly identify with the exploration of architectural space in its formation and perception as ...

From Food to Power: Hydrogel Thermoelectrics for Ingestible Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a fully edible thermoelectric–electrochromic platform that harvests heat from food and converts it into a visible color change. N‐type and p‐type hydrogel thermoelectric generators connected in series power anthocyanin‐based electrochromic displays, demonstrating the feasibility of safe, biodegradable, ingestible systems for on‐food ...

Hume and the Perception of Spatial Magnitude [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
This paper investigates Hume's theory of the perception of spatial magnitude or size as developed in the _Treatise\u3cD\u3e, as well as its relation to his concepts of space and geometry.

Nanothermometry in Living Cells: Physical Limits, Conceptual and Material Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Heat and temperature are fundamental to life. When nanothermometers began probing regions as small as a living cell, they triggered controversial claims of large intracellular temperature gradients. We review physical constraints energy‐conservation, entropy production, thermodynamic fluctuations, and molecular dynamics.

The Language of Color in Home-Office Design: Emotional, Perceptual, and Functional Dimensions of Wall Colors

open access: yesJournal of Architectural Sciences and Applications
The flexible working conditions of the digital age have made it necessary to designate parts of the home as workspaces. Architectural elements such as color, texture, and lighting, in home-office environments play a crucial role in shaping user ...

Microfluidic Platform for Multiparametric Profiling of Fibrin Permeability, Fibrinolysis, and Cell Invasion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This paper introduces a single‐channel H‐junction microfluidic assay that profiles fibrin's evolving function in repair and thrombosis by measuring, in one ∼3 µL gel, permeability, fibrinolysis kinetics, fibroblast invasion, and clot extension in real time.

Socio-Spatial Ward Design and Perceived Therapeutic Benefits of Outdoor Environments in Nigerian Psychiatric Hospitals

open access: yesJournal of Studies in Science and Engineering
While environmental psychology theories support the therapeutic potential of the outdoor environment in hospitals, studies are predominantly from Western cultures.

Artifact‐Minimizing Ultrathin Transparent Electrodes Fabricated via iCVD for In Vivo Optogenetic Stimulation and Neural Signal Monitoring of Primary Visual Cortex

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present ultrathin flexible transparent electrodes through iCVD‐enabled molecular control of 10 nm gold films on poly(dimethylaminomethylstyrene). In vivo validation demonstrated photoelectric artifact reduction vs. opaque electrodes and preservation of natural neural dynamics.

Optic flow based perception of two-dimensional trajectories and the effects of a single landmark. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
It is well established that human observers can detect their heading direction on a very short time scale on the basis of optic flow. Can they also integrate these perceptions over time to reconstruct a 2D trajectory simulated by the optic flow stimulus?

Perceptual Perspective Taking and Action Recognition

open access: yes, 2005
Robots that operate in social environments need to be able to recognise and understand the actions of other robots, and humans, in order to facilitate learning through imitation and collaboration.
