Scale sizes of intense auroral electric fields observed by Cluster [PDF]
The scale sizes of intense (>0.15 V/m, mapped to the ionosphere), high-altitude (4–7 RE geocentric distance) auroral electric fields (measured by the Cluster EFW instrument) have been determined in a statistical study.

Tracing solar wind plasma entry into the magnetosphere using ion-to-electron temperature ratio [PDF]
When the solar wind Mach number is low, typically such as in magnetic clouds, the physics of the bow shock leads to a downstream ion-to-electron temperature ratio that can be notably lower than usual.

Polar cap ion beams during periods of northward IMF: Cluster statistical results [PDF]
Above the polar caps and during prolonged periods of northward IMF, the Cluster satellites detect upward accelerated ion beams with energies up to a few keV.

Inner plasma structure of the low-latitude reconnection layer [PDF]
We report a clear transition through a reconnection layer at the low-latitude magnetopause which shows a complete traversal across all reconnected field lines during northwestward interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) conditions.

Dusty space plasma diagnosis using temporal behavior of polar mesospheric summer echoes during active modification [PDF]
The objective of this paper is to study the effect of different plasma and dust parameters on Polar Mesospheric Summer Echoes (PMSE) temporal behavior after turn-on and turn-off of radio wave heating and to use these responses to diagnose the properties ...

Polar cap arcs from the magnetosphere to the ionosphere: kinetic modelling and observations by Cluster and TIMED [PDF]
On 1 April 2004 the GUVI imager onboard the TIMED spacecraft spots an isolated and elongated polar cap arc. About 20 min later, the Cluster satellites detect an isolated upflowing ion beam above the polar cap.

Plasma Dynamics in Low-Electron-Beta Environments
Recent in situ measurements by the MMS and Parker Solar Probe missions bring interest to small-scale plasma dynamics (waves, turbulence, magnetic reconnection) in regions where the electron thermal energy is smaller than the magnetic one.

Evidence of entropy cascade in collisionless magnetized plasma turbulence
Turbulence of collisionless magnetized plasmas is ubiquitous in space as well as laboratory plasmas, and as such is subject to intense study. The authors present experimental evidence of the existence of entropy cascade by direct visualization of entropy

South-north asymmetry of field-aligned currents in the magnetotail observed by Cluster [PDF]
We statistically investigated features of the field-aligned current (FAC) distribution in plasma sheet boundary layers between 17 and 19 RE in the magnetotail using the curlometer technique to calculate the current from four-point magnetic field ...
