Perspectives on Astrophysics Based on Atomic, Molecular, and Optical (AMO) Techniques [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
About two generations ago, a large part of AMO science was dominated by experimental high energy collision studies and perturbative theoretical methods.

Symmetry‐Driven Unconventional Magnetoelectric Coupling in Perovskite Altermagnets: From Bulk to the Two‐Dimensional Limit

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The symmetry‐driven coexistence of altermagnetism and (anti)ferroelectricity in perovskites shows a strong dimensional dependence. Upon reducing the system from bulk to the two‐dimensional limit, only C‐type antiferromagnetic order retains ferroelectrically switchable altermagnetism, whereas A‐ and G‐type orders become conventional antiferromagnets ...

Simulating the Ring-shaped Line-of-sight Flows in Prominence-cavity Systems

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Line-of-sight oriented flows with several red and blue Doppler-shifted rings in coronal cavities have been observed by the Coronal Multi-channel Polarimeter (CoMP) but rarely explained.

Biomimetic Polymerization of Tellurocysteine: Breaking the Natural Amino Acid Radioprotection Limitation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by natural amino acid polymer‐melanin systems, this study strategically incorporated tellurocysteine to develop advanced radiation‐shielding materials. This approach transformed the primary interaction mechanism between melanin‐based materials and incident photons from Compton scattering to the photoelectric effect. Tellurocysteine‐polymerized

NASA thesaurus: Astronomy vocabulary [PDF]

open access: yes
A terminology of descriptors used by the NASA Scientific and Technical information effort to index documents in the area of astronomy is presented. The terms are listed in hierarchical format derived from the 1988 edition of the NASA Thesaurus Volume 1 --

Chiral‐Encoded Pt‐Ir Surfaces as Apparent Spin Filter for Enhanced Oxygen Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The Chiral‐Induced Spin Selectivity (CISS) effect is employed in chiral‐encoded mesoporous Platinum‐Iridium (Pt‐Ir) electrocatalysts to enhance the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). A break in spin symmetry leads to a substantial antagonistic difference in activity (>200%) when comparing two enantiomorphs of the same electrode.

Memristive Physical Reservoir Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Memristors’ nonlinear dynamics and input‐dependent memory effects make them ideal candidates for high‐performance physical reservoir computing (RC). Based on their conductance modulation, memristors can be classified as electronic or optoelectronic types.

The complex relationships between active galactic nuclei, bars, and bulges

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. Via scaling relations, it is well known that active galactic nuclei (AGNs) and bulges are linked. This link was thought to be driven by mergers, but recent studies show that secular processes are the dominant mechanism of supermassive black hole
