Space-Based Visible Space Surveillance Performance
Journal of Guidance, Control, and Dynamics, 2000The Space-Based Visible sensor package on the Midcourse Space Experiment satellite has been used to conduct space surveillance experiments for nearly one and a half years. The long-term detection sensitivity and metric performance of Space-Based Visible using onboard signal processed data are described.

Privacy in video surveilled spaces
Journal of Computer Security, 2008We present a system prototype for self-determination and privacy enhancement in video surveilled areas by integrating computer vision and cryptographic techniques into networked building automation systems. This paper describes a system prototype and research work that has been conducted by an interdisciplinary team of researchers.

Simulation of space-based visible surveillance images for space surveillance
SPIE Proceedings, 2011The simulation of space-based visible surveillance images can offer technical support to the index argumentation, scheme design and ground-tests of spatial optical system. Based on the analysis of the space-based visible surveillance principle, this paper establishes the simulation framework of space-based visible surveillance images, as well as its

Collaborative space surveillance
SPIE Proceedings, 2009This paper presents a space-based, space-surveillance study wherein the goal is to demonstrate the feasibility and scalability of the modeling and simulation of a distributed multi-agent multiple satellites tracking and prediction system. A flexible and modular system architecture that enables collaborative and efficient teaming among distributed ...

Spaces of Appearance and Spaces of Surveillance
Polity, 2012Hannah Arendt and Michel Foucault developed different but complementary theories about visibility and power. In an Arendtian “space of appearance,” the common visibility of actors generates power, which is understood as the potential for collective action. In a Foucauldian “space of surveillance,” visibility facilitates control and normalization. Power

A space-fed phase array for surveillance from space
Proceedings of the 1991 IEEE National Radar Conference, 1991A space-fed radar antenna called a venetian blind is proposed for all-weather wide-area surveillance from space. Radar requirements for tasked and untasked operation are discussed, and the process of selecting the venetian blind concept, which can support both, is described.

Space Surveillance, Asteroids and Comets, and Space Debris. Volume 1: Space Surveillance
1997Abstract : This Study was produced by the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board. It was requested by the Commander Air Force Space Command and approved by the Secretary and Chief of Staff of the Air Force. It covers three topics, each of sufficient depth to be study of its own: Space Surveillance, Asteroid and Comet Impact Warning for Earth, and Space ...

Space surveillance apparatus with sound source and method of short-range space surveillance
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1989A space surveillance apparatus includes at least one source of sonic radiation driven by a driver circuit as well as a processing or evaluation circuit. Upon movement of an object, or presence of a foreign object within a monitored space, the processing circuit triggers an alarm signal.

Spectral ship surveillance from space
2015 IEEE Applied Imagery Pattern Recognition Workshop (AIPR), 2015Remote surveillance of the ocean will soon become a high priority for the U.S. Navy, as international threats to close strategic choke points intensify, as piracy flourishes, and as gaps in U.S. waters continue to permit illegal intrusions with contraband cargo.

Digitizing surveillance: categorization, space, inequality
Critical Social Policy, 2003In this article, we seek to add to current debates about surveillance and society by critically exploring the social implications of a new and emerging raft of surveillance practices: those that specifically surround digital techniques and technologies. The article has four parts. In the first, we outline the nature of digital surveillance and consider
